Carlisle is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Carlisle is bordered by the boroughs of Monroeville and McKeesport to the north, Belmont to the east, and Antrim Township to the south. The name "Carlisle" comes from Cædricus (or Cadurcis) ille or "the little crescent," which was first observed on a day in 721 AD by two travelers who were passing through what is now Carlisle. At that time it was known as Mercia because its people lived near Merciantown in Northumberland County. In 1795, when Pennsylvania became a state, settlers founded a town called Westmoreland in Cumberland County in order to avoid being taxed twice as much by Pennsylvanian farmers living in their own counties. Westmoreland's incorporation as a township followed soon afterwards; but progress was slow until 1824 when building began on what would become Carlisle proper. The Panic of 1837 caused some banks to close their doors and ruined many families' budgets; but business boomed during the depression that followed, thanks largely to an influx of immigrants who came for economic opportunities unavailable anywhere else. By 1840 most residents had moved into permanent homes and small businesses started up all over town – including one grocery store still running today! During World War II many residents served in the military or underwent training here; afterward there were large-scale population growth rates due mainly to overseas migration (mainly Poles). In 1960 both sexes earned Bachelor's degrees at Carlisle College; today almost all jobs are dedicated to education or research rather than manufacturing or service industry. Today’scommunity has seen some challenges such as high levels of crime and poverty – problems that have been addressed with initiatives like job training programs and affordable housing developments; however, overall it remains an acceptable place for people from different backgrounds to live together since community stability has always been keynotes tenants’ priorities hereabouts!

Carlisle is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Carlisle was founded in 1795 by General James Forbes and Major John Armstrong as a small farming community on the banks of the Monongahela River. The name "Carlisle" derives from a Anglicized form of Jean-Jacques de Cloches' French name for it—Clermont-Ferrand—which he had traveled to visit in 1793. The first post office was established in Carlisle on October 15, 1795, and the town became an incorporated village on February 14, 1827. On July 8, 1832, Carlisle became a city when it merged with neighboring Parkersburg to form what is now Pittsburgh. In 1933 it annexed the adjacent boroughs of Sewickley and West Allis which made it one of the largest cities in Pennsylvania without annexation permission from its own government. In 1951 Carlisle annexed neighbouring Mellon Township which made it one of only two townships within Butler County to do so; the other being Meadville. The township boundaries have since been amended twice more: once in 1984 and again in 1995 after receiving federal funding for boundary adjustments following the consolidation of several other Butler County municipalities into that countywide entity known as Allegheny City (later Mountain View). On November 3rd 1909 local election officials reported that over 60% of registered voters cast ballots for Mayor George Haggerty against incumbent John Fenton who received 31%. This set off an heated race between Haggerty and Fenton that led to much public discussion about municipal government reform at that time such as ballot box stuffing or intimidation tactics used by political candidates seeking election through fraud or violence
The town of Carlisle, Pennsylvania was chartered in 1795 and named for General Sir George Washington. The town developed around a military post on the Susquehanna River. In 1801, the United States Military Academy was founded in Carlisle and soon after, the town began to grow as students moved in for schooling. By 1820, Carlisle had a population of over 1,000 people and it would grow even more during the 19th century as businesses were established within the community and new technologies were imported from abroad.
