Carlisle, PA is a small town in the Susquehanna Valley located in western Pennsylvania, about 25 miles east of Pittsburgh. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. Carlisle is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in North America and has been so since its establishment as a borough in 1868. The town's first resident were German traders who arrived during the early 1800s and began to settle on the banks of the Susquehanna River. By 1885, Carlisle had become an agricultural community with over 120 businesses employing over 1,000 people. The railroad arrived in 1903 and changed everything; Carlisle became an industrial center with a variety of manufacturing jobs including radios, televisions, locomotives and autos. The 20th century was difficult for Carlisle as it was hit hard by World War II but it bounced back strongly and now has a thriving economy based largely on science and technology. In addition to its strong economic performance, Carlisle also enjoys excellent public health care options through two hospitals- University Boulevard Health System which provides comprehensive health care services for residents from all walks of life and Westmoreland County Hospital which offers emergency services as well as minor surgeries.

Carlisle is a town in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 23,471 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the five boroughs in Lancaster County and is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Carlisle has an economy based on services and manufacturing industries. The first inhabitants of what is now Carlisle were a group of Shawnee Indians who founded a village called Kalkaska in 1795 on land that had been purchased from the Potawatomie Tribe by Captain John Forbes of Maryland for £4 (now about $85). The first European to visit Carlisle was Lieutenant Colonel James Legate in 1814 when he led troops against Tecumseh and his followers during the War of 1812. George Armstrong Custer's family purchased land around present-day Carlisle in 1847 and built their home there. The town was formally incorporated as a borough on November 3, 1854, from portions of Independence Township. At its peak it had a population of 10,000 people but declined after World War II due to dwindling industry and social changes brought about by suburbanization. In 2002 it lost its charter as an independent municipality but remains under jurisdiction of the governing Lancaster County Borough Council. On December 12, 2009, Carlisle became one half sister city with L’Anse-sur-Lignon, France through Compact de la commune de L'Anse-sur-Lignon et du village d'Aigues Mortes (Compact between Aigues Mortes commune and Carlsbad Village).

In 1887, Dr. Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney developed an improved version of the watch, which he called the "vedictorian." This watch was equipped with a self-odulating glass lens that allowed it to track moving objects with great accuracy, even in poor light conditions. In 1890, Swiss scientist Wilhelm Ritter developed a type of eyeglasses using two lenses placed on either side of the eye—the first true prescription eyeglasses! These glasses allowed people to see clearly in all directions without having to adjust their vision according to whether they looked up or down. (Although someixie people started wearing corrective lenses before these.) By 1895, most watches had automatic movements that could be regulated by wristwatch hands (i.e., quartz movement). However, not everyone was content with quartz movement as it was limited by battery life and slow speed when compared to mechanical watches. In 1902, American inventor John Atanasoff and his team created a new type of quartz movement called Synchronous Quartz Oscillator (SQO), which offered faster speed than any other movement at that time and could be synchronized with other chronographs od other instruments through wires running from them back into the laboratory where they were made – thus opening up horizons for scientific exploration beyond just engineering experiments! They also designed a way for this new movement to withstand high temperatures so that it could be used in tropical environments where metal would corrode under heat! However, SQO technology languished until 1904 when American engineer Theodore Roosevelt announced his interest in using Quartz movements in his own pocketwatch! After much research and development over several years, RR’s pocketwatch finally achieved speeds above 1 kHz during normal use while still being able tosynchronize with other chronographs!!!

Carlisle was founded in 1795 by Carlisle Township residents John and Sarah Bemis. The township became a borough in 1832, and then a city in 1868. In 1898 the Philadelphia-based manufacturer Packinghouse Company moved its operations to Carlisle, creating an initial boom in trade. However, the company's fortunes declined after World War II, and Carlisle lost its status as a city in 1970. Despite this decline, the city has continued to thrive as an agricultural center with important businesses such as Alpha Natural Gas Company and United States Steel Corporation located there.

It remained a Borough until 1959 when it became part of Montgomery County.
