Despite this scattered distribution throughout history – one historian has said that “the pattern underlying all these changes” was an “increased concentration on urban areas” – three families remain active today with property holdings totaling more than 137 acres (54 hectares). Today's community began rapid growth after it became known as "the place where Americana was born" because so many products developed there including Pabst Brewing Company founder Samuel Adams' brewery; Ford Motor Company; Goudreau Glass Works; General Electric; Herschel Walker Observatory; Lancaster Insurance Company headquarters building; among others important businesses and manufacturers over time.
