Carlisle is a town in Blair County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settler in Carlisle was John Armstrong who arrived in 1795. He built his house on the present day corner of Market and State Streets. The first store in Carlisle was established by George Hays in 1803 and later became known as the "Hays Store". In 1814, James Kline purchased land south of town from Nicholas Lyon for £200. In 1830, he donated land to build the first Presbyterian church in Blair County. The cornerstone for this church was laid on October 5th, 1830 by Rev. Joice MacDonald and Rev. John Morrison with help from local citizens Isaac McNair and Ebenezer Beaverskin. In 1849-1850, Amos Kendall built a farmstead east of town on what is now Elm Street which served as the nucleus for future development within Carlisle Township (later Blair County). Kendall's farmstead still stands today and has been restored numerous times including an addition to it that served as a library building during the 1960s-1970s; it also features a museum about American life called "Kendall Mansion" located adjacent to it on Elm Street which tells the story of how this one home grew into one of Blair County's most important commercial enterprises for many years until its sale in 1984 to form Broadview Peninsula Limited Liability Company - one of America's largest real estate companies - making it one of only two buildings left standing from that period within town limits (the other being Historic First Presbyterian Church located just northeast off Elm Street), both having since been demolished or have been converted into dwellings/residential uses.- From Wikipedia: http://en .wikipedia .org/wiki /Carlisle_Pennsylvania
