Butler, Pennsylvania is a town located in Butler County, Ohio, United States. It is the second largest community in Butler County and the municipal center of the unincorporated community of Easton. The population was 8,859 at the 2010 census. The history of optical accessories begins with simple things such as eyeglasses. On February 28, 1795, Nicholas-Jacques Conte designed and built his first pair of spectacles for use on his farm near Easton. The glasses were made from lead crystal and had lenses that could be rotated to see different sides of the page. They were so successful that Conte began manufacturing them himself and selling them door to door. By 1827 he had opened a business type store which sold glass eyes (by then known as cataracts) along with other optical devices such as telescopes and microscopes. In 1831 he patented his invention for creating an adjustable telescope using metal plates that could be moved up or down to increase or decrease magnification by 1/4th power (or about 30x). In 1875 John Fenton developed a new way to make eyeglasses by combining an elastic band with central contact lenses that would fit over any eye lens size without having to remove them altogether! He called these "Fenton Glasses". These glasses became very popular and were soon being used by doctors, soldiers and everyday people all over America. Not only did they help improve vision but they also saved expensive surgery costs! Glasses continued to be mainstays in American culture until around 1920 when contacts became more popular because they provided better contrast than naked eyesight and allowed people who wore sunglasses during bright sunlight to see clearly without feeling blinded by glare
