Butler, Pennsylvania is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania that was founded by Joshua Butler in 1798. The population of Butler at the 2010 census was 906. Butler is located in the northeast corner of Butler County, just east of Chambersburg and northwest of Pittsburgh. It lies on the Susquehanna River between Johnstown and Clarks Summit. The first settler in what is now Butler County was Joshua Butler, who arrived there from Kittanning Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1798. He built a cabin on the banks of the Susquehanna River about two miles west of present-day Uniontown. In 1827 he erected a log courthouse and jail near his cabin. Butler County was organized on January 1, 1839, from portions of Armstrong and Lawrence counties. As part of this reorganization process, parts of Potter Township were transferred to Butler County as well. A post office called Butlersville was established at this time; however it became unoccupied after 38 years and been discontinued October 15th 1870 (the date when rural mail service began). One account says that because no one lived really close to the post office it slowly died out until someone suggested opening an hours-only store next door which made enough profit to keep open until 1966! In 1871 butlersville had a population OF 7 people while today’s population stands around 50 with many more relocating to nearby towns during recent decades due to lower taxes and better schools in those neighboring communities

Butler is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first Europeans to settle in what is now Butler were Quakers who built their Meeting House in 1785. They were followed by Germans who came to the area in 1810 and started a brewery which became one of the largest employers of its time in Butler. In 1881, a post office was established at Butler with Ethelbert Hargrave as the first mail carrier. In 1901, James W. Sennett opened a flour mill here and soon made it one of the leading flour mills in western Pennsylvania. The mill closed around 1960 but some remnants remain today including an old gristmill that still grinds wheat and corn for local markets. During World War II, many men from Butler served in the armed forces; among them were George Fenton (a veteran of World War I) and his son John Fenton Sr., both of whom are buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.. In 1955, steel production ended at nearby Steeltown when two giant blast furnaces were built there by DuPont for its new line of Interstate 95 highway traffic control equipment; these plants produced so much heat that they melted down during natural gas explosions which took place intermittently throughout Westmoreland County for many years afterwards! In 1967-1968, Gilmore High School replaced McLaughlin High School which had been destroyed by fire on North Main Street just east of town center while students were graduating from high school - this event led to demonstrations against standardized testing programs taking place then all over America! In 1984-1985 (the 20th anniversary year), Butler's only major league professional sports team ever playing outside its home state was the "Butler Bears" who played baseball at PNC Park (now Citizens Bank Park) adjacent to downtown Pittsburgh with attendance sometimes topping 100K! The closure of PNC Park after 30 years caused some local businesses to suffer as their customers switched to other forms of entertainment such as four outdoor amphitheaters built around town currently used mostly for concerts and other events... However more recently several restaurants have reopened within walking distance or across street from each other thanks to redevelopment efforts begun several decades ago... Today much like back then most people self-employed or do odd jobs support themselves through agriculture or related activities as well as keeping up with technology through work done locally outsource projects
Butler was founded in 1788 by the brothers John and Joseph Butler. The town grew rapidly due to its location on a major transportation route, and in 1834 it became a borough. In 1919, the town became a city.
