Butler is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. The name "Butler" comes from the Potawatomi word "buchi", meaning "a place to stay." The first post office in Butler was established in 1827, and became known as "New Bethlehem". In 1881, it changed its name to "Butler". The region that includes Butler was surveyed by George Washington in 1793 and named for General James Butlers Regiment of Infantry who fought at King's Mountain on October 12th, 1792. A Presbyterian church was built there in 1807 by Rev. John Prentice and dedicated on October 7th. As late as 1886 many residents still subscribed to Baptist services despite the fact that this denomination no longer had any official presence in the area after their move from Philadelphia. In 1902, when the millinery industry started up here, many women came from nearby Lancaster to work at local mills such as those run by Mrs. Loyd Wright (1824-1912) or Fannie Furness (1847-1925). They were usually paid about $1 per week with no benefits other than food and lodging during their working hours which lasted four days a week maximum plus one day off each week for eating out where they could take advantage of discounts available at local restaurants or brought food home with them for dinner every night regardless of whether they worked or not during their free time period; also some women did some agricultural work while others took care of children until school let out each day before going back home to tend to chores around the house including milking cows if necessary outside on hot days! On November 4th 1907 a tornado touched down near mile marker 246 on Ulysses S Grant Boulevard killing fourteen people along with damage reported totals reaching $100,000 making it one of Pennsylvania's most destructive tornadoes ever! In 1897 when coalmining began operations northeast of town a new township called Hazleton was formed but within two years all residents had moved out so much dust and sand blew into town that services were discontinued there too so Hazleton reverted back to its original name – Butler – becoming an incorporated village once again! However due to increasing transportation costs associated with setting up shop here both businesses abandoned what little remained by 1966 when new shopping malls opened just east of town making Butler essentially an ghost town except for a few scattered buildings now used as motel/motel rooms etc…

Butler, Pennsylvania is a city in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 11,836 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. Butler was founded in 1798 by George Butler and his family. The town became a borough in 1851 and then a city in 1907. In 1912 it merged with the neighboring borough of Elkville to form the new City of Butler. The history of Butler goes back to 1798 when George Butler moved from Ireland to what is now Butler County with his family for unknown reasons. He started a small farm on what is now US 61 near present-day Parkersburg before moving into east central Pennsylvania where he erected some early log buildings which still stand today including the old courthouse building on Main Street (later renamed Union Hall). It wasn't until 1800 that George's son John married Anna Haines and they started farming their own land around what is now Pioneer Cemetery south of town. In 1821 John moved his family further west to what is now Lebanon and began business as a tailor/made goods store near US 60 & PA 87 today's Lancaster Road intersection southeast of downtown Bethlehem This location would continue to be active as a business until about 1870 when it burned down due to an accidental fire; however, John's widow continued running her shop until her death in 1850 which left their three children - James Fenton who ran one side of the house from 1871-1875; Mary Catherine who ran it from 1875-1887; and John Sr., proprietor/operator (until his death 1906) - all involved in running their father's stores until he closed them all down at age 79 years old! All but James Fenton eventually migrated away during this time period making up the so called "butterfly" migration out West starting those initial days following World War II when many young men came back East looking for work after fighting overseas! This Migration also marks one of only two times since European settlement there have been more than 10% native born residents living amongnative transplanted Americans! There are claims that parts or even most everything within earshot today of Old Dutch Church just north east corner Willow Grove Avenue between Market Street & Elm Street may once have been withinOld Dutch Churchyards boundaries as well! However nothing has ever been positively located corroborating this claim! AfterJames' death his widow took over ownership & operated herHardware Store next door for about 25 years before passing away too leaving behind 2 children - Jesse Wistar (now owner/operator) from 1945-1957 & Joyce Wistar who operates it currently daycare center next door since 1957.- After Jane’s death her son Jesse inherited Hardware store operation but sold it several times during ensuing decades prior to purchasing it outright from current owner JWistar in 2007.- After JR’s passing ***** wife ***** reopened Hardware store under new name *****
