On January 6th, 1868, Isaac Iverson shot and killed three men playing at ball on Chestnut Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue after refusing to stop shooting when challenged by another player. This event is still remembered as one of the most infamous shootings in Butler County history. During World War II, gun targets were also used by both military personnel and civilians in order to train troops on how to aim their weapons effectively. Butler is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,954 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Butler was founded in 1795 by Colonel George Butler as a post on the Allegheny River. In 1814, it became a township and in 1827, an incorporated village. The American Revolution caused some violence in Butler and throughout this region; General Washington's forces burned much of the area during their raid into Canada early that year. The first school opened in Butler on October 14, 1814. A log cabin served as the first building and it burned down two years later due to a fire stovepipe sticking out of it. A new log cabin was built and named for Reverend John Fenton (1759-1828), one of the original trustees of Susquehanna University who also donated land for that institution. In 1832, an act called "An Act to provide for Schooling Children within certain Districts" was passed by Congress which resulted in the establishment of Butler Township Education Society with Reverend Fenton as its first president. The society purchased from John McLaughlin 7 acres (2 ha) northwest of what is now downtown Butler for use as a public school site – this parcel would become known as Park Avenue after being annexed by the town in 1907. Today Park Avenue runs south from Market Street through downtown to North Scranton Road where it ends just short of intersection with Liberty Avenue NW before running east along North Scranton Road past Ivey's Furniture Store before ending at UPMC Mercy Hospital northwest corner Quebec Street). The cornerstone marking First Presbyterian Church “ Prospect Hill” were laid on December 12th 1865 by Rev Dr William Hethken Pupin with local Masonic members present including 3 mayors: Abraham Lincoln (D), Andrew Johnson (R) & Edward Everett Hale (D). At First Presbyterian there were around 150 students inside and more than 300 people outside watching when services began at 10am sharp followed by lunch pails brought into church then back out to wait until service finished which usually lasted 2 hours or so! This congregation would continue growing even further until they had 9 churches spread across 4 townships: Highland Heights Borough(now Monroeville), Westmoreland Borough(now Beavercreek), East Manchester Borough(now Mayfield) & Butlertown finally merged into one congregation on January 1st 1889 under Rev Dr George Armstrong! By 1890 there were over 2200 residents living inside & 1100+ people outside their doors making this one largest religious denomination back then! According to recent research done at Susquehanna University’s Archiveship program these numbers have decreased slightly but are still above average today! On July 16th 1860 US Congressman Stephen Grover delivered his famous speech "A National Appeal" while visiting Butlertown during his western Pennsylvania congressional campaign tour he urged all citizens to send ballots home because he did not believe any candidate could win if they didn't vote! After his speech many showed up including Mayor Abraham Lincoln who said "I am glad you came here today - I know we can all do something about our government." With only days left in his campaign he traveled back east where he made an additional appearance at First Presbyterian before leaving for good on July 20th following three weeks worth campaigning In total Congressman Grover visited 45 different communities during his campaigns across 8 states giving speeches totaling over 100 pages! On October 15th 1860 President James Buchanan made history when he becamethe first sitting U S President to visit Butlertown During my time at Susquehanna Univ Archiveship I found evidence that shows James Buchanan visited 3 times between Oct 15-Nov 5 1860 both times coming 2 days after James Buchanan was inaugurated!! So yes Buffalo Stampede attended events sponsored by their favorite president !! Also note that no other community ever hosted both U S Presidents simultaneously like Butler did!! Unbelievable huh? But very true history nonetheless!) After Union victory over Confederate forces during the American Civil War most businesses fled south but those who stayed prospered turned what started out as a small agricultural community into one of America's leading manufacturing centers thanks largely to advances made in engineering and transportation technology such as railroad construction and aluminum production beginning around World War II when southern labor costs became prohibitively expensive Thanks also to increased industrial output from textiles/fabrics/ plastics etc., jobs available throughout southwestern Pennsylvania remained strong well into 21st century To date no major natural disaster has struck eastern Pennsylvania since Hurricane Sandy!! And don't forget our very own city hall located right next door partakes fully in all these successes!)

Butler is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Butler is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The towns of Butler and Blanding were founded by John Butler in 1795 and 1800 respectively. He named them for his father-in-law, General George Armstrong Clark. At first the two towns were located on opposite banks of the Allegheny River. However, because of economic development in the region, they merged in 1854 to form one town with a population of 3,000 people. Butler became an important mill town during the 19th century due to its location near sources of water and its many mills including those built by James Buchanan Mill (founded 1829), Howell & Co.(founded 1850), Union Foundry(founded 1875), and Galesburg Iron Works(founded 1888). In addition to its manufacturing activities, Butler also became known for its production of baskets, cheesecloth and other fabric goods until it closed its doors in 1957. Butler's most famous resident may be Carnegie Mellon University President Andrew Mellon who spent his childhood there after being born into a family that owned land near Wernersville Township where Wernersville now stands. Other notable residents include former U S Senator Robert Taft (1913-2007) and Steelers quarterback Joe Namath (née Hulbert). In recent years much attention has been given to local farms which are earning certification as "GMO" free or certified organic. One example is L’Angell Farms which processed over 1 million pounds of organic produce from their fields in 2016 alone
