The city has seen growth again over recent years with new development taking place along East Main Street near First Baptist Church (known locally as "The bastion"), Interstate 81/Upper Susquehanna Boulevard (formerly I-81 Business Loop), State Route 309 (former PA Turnpike) and Park Avenue South just south of downtown - all providing easy access to shopping malls, restaurants and nightlife options while preserving much of what makes Butler so special: its unpretentious architecture; its close-knit community; its abundant cultural attractions including several theaters; and its warm humanistic values which are often seen throughout central Pennsylvania.

The first store in Butler was built on the corner of Market and Elm Streets. In 1827, the population of Butler reached 30 residents. In 1876, the name of Butler was changed to Butler Township. On January 1, 1907, the township became a borough within Butler County. On December 7th of that year, the borough became an independent municipality with its own budget and government structure. On November 10th of 2009, it merged into neighboring Abington Township. Butler has enjoyed some significant growth over time; in 1886 it had only 5 residents and by 1910 it had exceed 20 residents! One reason for this rapid growth may be due to railroad transportation which allowed goods and people to move quickly through the area! Another factor may have been the addition of mills along the Susquehanna River which supported local industries such as textiles and footwear! Today, many businesses still operate in or around Butlertowns including Jordan Chevrolet & Cadillac locations as well as several primary schools including Southwestern Christian Academy and Keystone Agricultural School!!!
