Wesseling Firearms Company continued to sell firearms products until 1949 when it merged with Smith & Wesson Corporation. At that point, Smith & Wesson became known as "the parent company" for all firearm manufacturers within Smith & Wesson Corporation. As a result of this merger, both companies underwent name changes - from Smith & Wesson Corporation (now known as Walther AG) to Winchester Repeating Arms Company (now owned by rife Inc.) After several years of stability under these new ownership conditions (although there were occasional fluctuations in sales), Winchester Repeating Arms Company eventually went bankrupt in 1959 due to overproduction issues with their pistols alone! It wasn't until 1978 that Winchester Repeating Arms Company finally reopened its doors under new management--this time becoming known as ATK Sporting Goods Division! From then on, ATK Sporting Goods Division continued production of high-quality ammunition products under the name "Winchester Ammunition" until 1984 when they once again reverted back to their original name - Winchester Repeating Arms Company! Today, ATK continues operations as one of America's leading firearms retailers with more than 22000 square feet inside its flagship store located on Market Street in downtown Butler!

The name of the town comes from General James Butler who fought in the American Revolution and is considered to be one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. The first permanent settler in Butler County was George Armstrong Custer who arrived in 1792. He founded what is now Clearfield Township and named it after himself, butler county being part of his land grant. In 1824, John Fenton donated land to form Clearfield Borough and also named it after him. The boroughs formed a combined municipality on January 1st 1901 which became Butler Township on July 1st that year. Butler has been through many changes since its incorporation as a township: It lost its namesake in 1921 when General James Butler's estate was conveyed to Clearfield Borough; it gained new boundaries when Potteries Township merged with Clearfield Borough; and finally, it lost all its municipalities status on October 29th 2006 when Butler Township annexed Potteries Township forming a single municipality once again! On December 5th 2004 an event took place which left history forever changed as both Butlershire Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Keystone Health System merged into University Hospitals Philadelphia (UHPH). This merger created one of the largest healthcare systems in North America with more than 2,000 beds located across six countries- making UHPH one of PHI’s top health providers giving Butler Hospital some competition!
