This automatic pistol consisted of a cylinder filled with white powder that was ignited by setting off an exploding cap outside of it. When fired, this weapon would automatically chamber another round within its cylinder and fire immediately after being withdrawn from use. The BAP became one of America's most popular firearms during World War II because it was easy to operate and reliable.

The current Borough of Butler was formed on March 15, 1998 from the merger of two other boroughs: North Park and Whitehall. Butler's rich history goes back to its earliest days as a German settlement on the Allegheny River. In 1795, German immigrants founded the town of Butler on land that now makes up much of downtown Butler. The original settlers were farmers who grew tobacco and corn for export to markets in Europe. Some years later, some English-speaking settlers arrived in town as well and helped develop the local economy by conducting manufacturing businesses such as wagonmaker John Atherton’s Foundry or tailor James Caldwell’s tailor shop until 1830 when all three settlements were combined into one group under the name “Butler Township”.
