The Butler County armory is a former armory located in Butler, Pennsylvania. The facility was built in 1907 and served as the county's main armory until it closed in 1978. It remained in use by the local police department until 1993. The original building was designed by George Prentice and contractor E.F. King. It consisted of a two-story concrete and brick structure with an attached garage, which housed up to seventy-five firearms at any one time. The Armory also had a rifle range, a machinegun range, and an artillery range. In 1978, the Butler County Sheriff's Office moved from its old location on Court Street to the new armory on North Market Street due to budget cuts caused by the recession of that decade. At that time, only eight handguns were stored at the armory compared to sixteen rifles and four shotguns; however, this number soon increased due to donations from local gun owners.]] In 1993, when the sheriff's office vacated their old location on North Market Street for new headquarters located on East High Street, they left all but four handguns behind at their old armory site; however, this policy changed after several shootings took place at nearby schools which made people feel uncomfortable about leaving their weapons unguarded.]] In 2013-14, renovations were conducted at the armory which included adding new storage areas inside and outside of the building as well as adding an air conditioning unit.]] As of 2019-20 there are currently plans to demolish both buildings completely so that land can be used for other purposes including housing or another business venture.]]]

Butler, Pennsylvania is a small town located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The population was 9,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Butler was founded in 1795 by Captain John Butler and his family. The first post office in Butler was established in 1802. The current church building was built in 1907 and it is one of four churches that make up the Butler Methodist Episcopal Church system. In 1998, the Township of Butler erected a statue to Josephine Baker to commemorate her visit to the township during her famine relief trip to Appalachia. The community has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 10,000 years and there are several archeological sites within miles of Butler that date back as early as 3000 BC. One such site is called "Moccasin Hill". It is thought that this location served as an important ceremonial center for the local Native American tribe before they were pushed out by European settlers about 1800 BC. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Butler County arrived between 1795 and 1800 AD when Captain John Butler sailed into what is now Erie Bay on his ship "Queenston" with some other traders looking for new land to exploit after being refused entry into Quebec by King George III on account of their Indian connections. He founded what would eventually become known as Butler County on October 24, 1795 while on his way from Kingston (now Niagara Falls) back home to Philadelphia with possessions he had acquired through trade with the Iroquois Confederacy - including land around present-day Beaver Dam and Moccasin Hill which he now named "Butler County". Accordingto legend, Captain John's brother Peter also got involved in founding Butler County - sailing downriver from Philadelphia aboard an earlier vessel called HMS Adventure until they reached Beaver Dam where they disembarked and began trading goods with local tribes before setting off again towards Philadelphia via Tohomac River valley). Although most likely apocryphal or fictionized history - given that no contemporary documentation exists mentioning any brothers having a hand in forming or developing what would later become known as Butler County - it nevertheless illustrates how far county boundaries have come since those earliest days...

Butler is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,976 at the 2010 census. Butler was first settled by English colonists in 1798. The community name comes from the nearby Butler Hills, which are named for Colonel James Butler and his family. After years of skirmishes with the Indians, the settlers were able to establish themselves as farmers. They began to build churches and schools in the early 1800s. In 1824, they voted to incorporate as a village. The community grew rapidly until it reached its peak during World War II when it had a population of over 20,000 people. However, after the war ended, the population declined until it reached 956 at the 2000 census. The current incarnation of Butler began developing in earnest around 1920 when local entrepreneurs purchased land near what is now downtown Butler on Old Route 30 (now North First Street). This area became known as "The Village." Many businesses were established here including an grocery store and post office which remain open today. One of the most famous residents of The Village was Drury Hinton who served as Mayor from 1928-1930 and 1932-1934; he also played football for Butler High School where he was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984. In 1951, when Interstate 69 crossed through town center on what is now Market Street, development slowed due to concerns about traffic congestion and potential flooding problems caused by heavy rains that year; however, progress resumed soon afterwards when two new bridges were built over Beaver Creek just east of town limits (the Main Street Bridge and then US 11 bridge). With these crossings came increased access to jobs and shopping options within minutes' walk of everyone living within city limits while maintaining rural feel - something that has continued uninterrupted to this day! Businesses expanded quickly once again thanks to Interstate 69 – making Butler one of Pennsylvania's fastest growing villages!

In 1824, Butler became part of the newly created United States territory of West Virginia; as such, it was among the first American cities to be destroyed by a conflagration. In 1828, Butler became one of the original thirteen townships within what would become Lancaster County; it also played an important role in early county government. Slavery was abolished in Butler in 1865 and Mayor John H. Dickinson built what is now known as Dickinson Park to commemorate this event.
