Ammunition has been a vital part of the United States military for centuries. The first shot heard in America was fired from a cannon at Fort Sumter in 1861. The town of Butler was founded by two artillery officers who were named after local hills and rivers. The officers, Samuel Butler and James Hays, decided that the place should be called "Butlerstown" after their hometowns in England and Ireland respectively. In 1824, Congress passed an act authorizing the erection of a fort here to protect commerce on the Susquehanna River. The fort was built by General Nicholas Thayer and completed in 1827-28. It was abandoned soon after it was occupied by French troops during their invasion of America in 1812-13. Butler's new arsenal began operations on November 1, 1824. That same year, President James Ketchum issued a proclamation inviting settlers to come to Butler and establish townships there as soon as possible for the purpose of establishing market gardens, trading posts and rifle ranges necessary for defense against Indian raids. After many petitions were filed with Congress requesting permission to settle near this new armory, four thousand acres were granted to Butler Township on December 15, 1825 (this area includes present day University Heights). On July 6th, 1830 – just over three years after construction began – Major General John Armstrong Cadillac erected a large white marble statue honoring General Philip Schuyler at what is now Main Street corner Washington Avenue in downtown Butler Township (now University Heights). This statue commemoration served as an early warning system for incoming Indians about American intentions when they raided nearby villages during this time period (the area around modern day Main Street/Washington Avenue had been burned down several times during Indian attacks). It wasn't until 1863 that an accurate gauge became available that allowed us determine how much powder we actually need per person each day! In 1795-96 Captain John Cook set up his stores at what is now known as Parker’s Point which lay across Raccoon Creek betweenpresent day Market Place eastward along US 20W into Dickinson County then northward along US 209W into Lebanon County before finally reaching its current location on present day State Road 762 east side of Parker’s Landing Rd., just south of where Raccoon Creek empties into Delaware Bay

The annexation reunited Greencastle Heights with Butler while also creating much-needed parkland for residents within the newly annexed neighborhood – one of only two such annexations made to any municipality or township during that time period (the other being Scranton/Wilkesbarre).[1] The new parkland included portions of present day Mount Lebanon Cemetery as well as much needed open space for public use adjacent to Interstate 376 aka "The Drive". This additional open space has become home to local businesses such as Scoreboard Coffee[2], Right Field Grill[3], PNC Arena[4] and many more.[5][6][7][8] Today, nearly all aspects of life are centered around central business district locations including shopping malls (Scranton Town Centre), stadiums (Pittsburgh Steelers football games), colleges/universities (butler university campus), health care facilities (University Hospitals Case Medical Center) and various restaurants/bars throughout central Business District areas like Downtown Scranton,[9][10] Point Breeze,[11] Wilkesbarre Township,[12][13][14] Beavercreek Township,[15][16],[17] Monroeville Borough,[18], Moon Township[19](20) and surrounding communities - making it an incredibly popular tourist destination for those looking to vacation or work near major metropolitan areas across East Coast states!
