Bloomsburg is located on Route 26 and lies within Bucks County. The early history of Bloomsburg can be traced back to 1778 when the British forces under General John Forbes burned down a trading post in what is now called Forbes Tavern Square. A subsequent survey found that there were only two houses in the square and no other buildings of any significance within a radius of . In 1811, William Ladd purchased from George Washington a piece of land near where present-day Market Street meets School Street for $100. Ladd built him a mill on the stream running through his property which produced flour until 1865 when it was closed by order of the US military due to lack of resources. In 1829, John Pemberton bought land adjacent to Ladd's mill site for $10 per acre and began construction on what would become Pemberton University (now Penn State Dickinson). He named his new university after himself and opened it in 1830 with 32 students under the tuition system then current in America. Today, Penn State Dickinson offers undergraduate degree programs in arts, sciences, engineering, business administration and health care services as well as graduate degrees in business administration, health care services and information technology. The first store built in Bloomsburg was styled "The Shop" located on Main Street between Springdale Road and High Street from 1837-1839 by Solomon Goodrich & Son who also operated anvils nearby at Third Fordsmith forge until 1851 when JamesGoodrich& Sons took over operation from Solomon Goodrich & Son. In 1861 David Lawrence became manager/owner of Goodrich's store which remained open until 1886 when it closed followed by another Store on Front Street (now known as Prieststown Road) which reopened February 3rd 1888 with Wm Henson as Manager/Owner until 1923 when he sold all assets to J S Roush Jr.. On September 15th 1925 Roush's store burned down during a storm making this one of only 2 incidents nationally where such an event occurred during that time period; this also left Stroudsburg without any major stores or businesses during that time frame In 1990 Google set up shop here developing their search engine center across from Steeles Mills Shopping Center; development continued into recent years with additional offices being added to include Nexus Solutions mfg., Allegro Information Services Inc., Livewiremedia Inc., Timeshares USA LLC etc.; today Google employs more than 1,500 people across 6 floors including Research & Development Offices totaling over 100K sq ft including 10K sq ft dedicated to meeting space

In 1812, John Armstrong founded Armstrong's Brewery in what is now downtown Bloomsburg. In 1814, George Stephenson built the Stevenson Iron Works near present day Elmira and erected an iron bridge over Susquehanna River to connect Armstrong's brewery with Stephenson's works. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Armstrong's Brewery became one of three primary suppliers of beer for General Ulysses S. Grant’s forces; the other two being Philadelphia and Boston In 1865, John Dennison bought Armstrong’s Brewery from George Stephenson for $15 million dollars which made him America’s first Tycoon Brewing Company owner/operator Dennison turned Bloomsburg into a thriving community because he knew that breweries were key to economic development In 1876, Dennison opened what is today known as Dennison’s Department Store on Main Street in downtown Bloomsburg Dennison was legendary for creating modern retail concepts such as self-service departments and self-checkout lines In 1903, when Prohibition ended in America, Denny closed his brewery but continued to operate his store until it burned down in 1983 Founded by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail, Western Electric Corporation (WEC) was headquartered in downtown Bloomsbury until its closure in 1984 WEC manufactures electric equipment including televisions and radios among many others before becoming dormant again until it reopened as National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) headquarters once again on Market Street adjacent to PNC Plaza just east of I-70 between 7th Ave & 8th St., across from Scranton Center For Performing Arts
