The mill continued production until 1865 when it was destroyed by fire. A few years later (1868), an ironworks was built that became one of America's leading producers of cast iron products until its closure in 1978. In 1908, there were over 60 stores and restaurants located within one block of downtown Bloomsburg with a population exceeding 1,000 people The community experienced rapid growth following World War II when many Americans relocated to Bloomsburg due to wartime shortages of housing and food . New businesses sprang up such as an insurance agency (1948), general store (1951), post office (1957), movie theater (1976) and dry goods store (1982). during this time period many homes were constructed including several high-rise buildings such as Fairview Towers which still stand today Today's economy focuses on arts and cultural pursuits with major performing arts venues located within walking distance including First Unitarian Church across High School Drive from downtown Bloomsburg as well as local museums like Carnegie Museum Pittsburgh & Erie County Museum Of Art located just outside town limits

Bloomsburg is a borough in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown- Bethlehem-Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bloomsburg was founded on April 12, 1795 by Nicholas Blakeslee and his wife Catherine Case. They named it for flowers found near their home in England – blossom being derived from "bluemove" (a type of blue dye). On July 1, 1802, the first post office was established in Bloomsburg with James Crouse as its first trustee. On February 2, 1814, the name of the borough was changed to Bloomfield Township when John Denny became its first Mayor. In 1824, President James K. Polk awarded a land grant to Nicholas Blakeslee that included present-day Bloomfield Township and much of what is now Easton Township. In 1827–28 bloomers began picking wildflowers in what is now West Bloomfield Township near where today's Park Avenue intersects South Street; this started what would become known as blooming season inBloomfield Township. On December 4th 1830 Samuel Morse sent a telegraph message from Baltimore to New York City which began “A new year”; this signaled the start of Christmas Eve in America and helped promote commerce during that time period because people could purchase gifts online or over the phone during that holiday season without having to worry about delivery times or customs clearanceissues. The original spelling for Bloomfield until 1954 may have been Blue Flour Mills because blue flour often came from Scotland via Ulster County and then through Bloomfield township before reaching Philadelphia markets where it sold under various brands including Dickinson's flour company and National Biscuit Corporation later renamed Nabisco Incorporated until it merged with Wheaties Incorporated on January 1st 1987 becoming Toll Brothers) . In 1835 construction began on an Erie Canal crossing at Northumberland Road just north of town limits which would connect Philadelphia with Buffalo via Trenton NJ allowing goods transported across country upriver to be unloaded at Lewesport PA which served as both a bypass for congestion on the Susquehanna River Bridge east of Lancaster and also acted as an interchange point for ferryboats heading downriver carrying goods back up river
