Bethlehem is a small town in the southcentral Pennsylvania region of the United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 1,551 people. It is bordered by Clearwater Township to the east and north, Westmoreland Township to the west, and East Jerusalem Township to the south. From 1865 until 1995, it was connected by telegraph lines with Allentown via Reading. On December 3, 2002, following passage of Act 723 which created Northumberland County within Pennsylvania's new Lancaster County,[1] Bethlehem lost its municipal status and ceased to be an incorporated municipality; however it still maintains its own Police Department and water system. The history of Bethlehem goes back over two hundred years to when this area was part of Fort Pittsylvania County near Pittsburgh. In 1746 Colonel John Forbes erected a fort at what is now known as Fort Pittsylvania on Pittsburgh's Monongahela Riverfront between Allegheny Avenue and Forbes Street just east of Mellon Street (nowruce). The original settlers were herder-gatherers from Scotland who built their homes along riverbanks around present day Meadville (then called Newtown) because they could not live upwind from where the rivers emptied into Lake Erie.[2][3] When George Washington visited Fort Pittsylvania in October 1768 he ordered Major James Craigston "To prepare himself against all possible Invasion" but no invasion occurred.[4] General Forbes also erected other forts including one at Nanticoke Creek near modern day Conshohocken Junction on March 10th 1776 under order from Washington[5] during his campaign against British troops commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Edward Braddock inside Philadelphia Heights prior to Battle Of Germantown on April 14th which resulted in heavy American losses including 5 killed/14 wounded[6][7][8][9][10]. During French & Indian War (1755-1763), Battle Of Monmouth took place nearby on June 25th 1756 resulting in 8 Americans killed/36 wounded with rifle fire only 2 shots reported out of 400 rounds fired

Bethlehem is a small town located in the state of Pennsylvania, north of Philadelphia. Bethlehem was founded in 1750 on the banks of the Susquehanna River by colonists from England. The original town was named for King George III of Great Britain, who had moved his capital to London in 1753. Bethlehem became an independent township in 1834 and a borough in 1868. The population of Bethlehem peaked at 19,824 in 1920 and has since declined slightly to 14,521 as of 2015. The early history of Bethlehem is intertwined with that of Philadelphia itself. Both towns were founded by English settlers during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). When the British won their war against France, they brought over large numbers of refugees, including some Welsh people who had fought for France against their British masters. Many new settlers arrived in what is now Bethlehem because there were no other places to go after Loyalist forces surrendered at Yorktown Heights on September 11, 1777. After independence was gained by the United States, many Welsh people decided to move back into their homeland after years living away from their families and friends. In 1800, Reverend John Newton established a parish church called St Johns Anglican Churchyard just outside present-day Bethlehem proper on Lower North Avenue. By 1840, more than 60% of all citizens within the borough were Welshmen or their descendants – making it one of America’s largest concentrations Welsh communities until well into the 20th century. In 1851, when Lancaster County was created from partof Philadelphia County, Bethlehem became part of that newly created county too. At first glance it may have seemed like a strange decision given its tiny population and lack of land holdings; however, when Lancaster County grew larger (it reached its current size between 1860 and 1930) Bethlehem saw little opportunity to expand beyond its immediate surroundings because much development takes place only inside city boundaries where infrastructure is available and taxes are high enough to cover costs associated with such growth rates rather than distributing them among a wider area as would be needed for a smaller community like Bethlehem’s case alone Although most residents continued to identify themselves primarily as “Welshmen” throughout this period (albeit with some changes), waves OFettlement began transforming less developed areas around town center into outright “foreigners” through incorporations/naturalization processes typical among settler groups at this time: Germans (1860-1920), Irish Catholics (1890-1920), Poles (1910-1920), Italians (1920-1930).
