Bethel Park is a town in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 12,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Bethel Park was founded in 1792 as an agricultural village on the east side of the Monongahela River. In 1865, it became a city and remains so today. Bethel Park is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bethel Park is home to Scranton Catholic University and St. John's Episcopal Church. The first settlement in what is now Bethel Park was made in 1786 by Nicholas Henniker and his family on a tract of land purchased from the Lenape people. The name "Bethel" originated from an Indian word meaning "peaceful place." There were no blacksmiths or farmers until after the American Revolution when large tracts of land were granted to white men for farming purposes. In 1824, Samuel Gregg opened a store in what is now Bethel Park and began selling items such as saddles, hats, gloves and shoes to settlers living near Philadelphia. In 1830, he built a brewery which became one of the most important businesses in the town until its consolidation with neighboring Wilkes-Barre in 1949. In 1846, Abraham Bechtel bought Gregg's store and began developing businesses such as meatpacking companies and coal mines around it; these industries remain important today. In 1867, Father James Quinn organized a group of Catholics who established their own parish within the limits of modern Bethel Park; this parish would later become known as Holy Name Cathedral Parish (now Our Lady Help Of Christians Parish). Father Quinn also helped open present-day Scranton Catholic University (then just called Saint John's College) in 1889 on land donated by Abram Bechtel III. Today Holy Name Cathedral Parish has two high schools – Bethel High School (grades 9 through 12) and Our Lady Help Of Christians Secondary School – as well as four elementary schools: All Saints Elementary School (Kindergarten through 5th grade), Blessed Sacrament Elementary School (6th through 8th grades), Blessed Virgin MaryElementary Schools (9th through 11th grades), Sacred Heartelementary school(12th through 14th grades). It should be noted that while there are numerous churches within present-daybethellpark with different denominations operating them all sharing infrastructure including restrooms/administration areas etc., only one high school has been mentioned so far: Holy Name Cathedral Parish's Our Lady Help Of Christians High School which enrolls students from kindergarten thru 12th grade

Bethel Park was founded in 1787 by the Reverend Samuel David Baird and his wife, Deborah. The area that is now Bethel Park was part of a large Indian hunting ground and the first settlers were farmers who did not have much success in growing crops. In 1814, the Baird's moved to what is now Mount Pleasant and started a small farm. In 1821, they moved again, this time to their present home on North Avenue. By 1830, the Baird's had built a larger house on what is now Northumberland Avenue. The family continued to live in their home until 1911 when they sold it and moved to Mount Pleasant.
