Bethel Park is a small town in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, located about 15 miles west of Philadelphia on the edge of Bucks County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 9,362. The name Bethel Park comes from two places: one being Bethlehem, and the other being a chapel that stood near what is now Bethel High School before it was moved to its present site in 1887. The firstBethel Presbyterian Reformed Church meeting took place on October 25th, 1795 in what is now Northumberland Road and Demarest Avenue when thirteen people participated including Reverend James Auld (a future Bishop of Pittsburgh). In 1837 there were only seven residents living in Bethel Park including two families from Springettsbury Township which made up most of the population until 1861 when they moved to Newtown where their home still stands today. From1861-1923 Bethel Park's only company school was open for boys with grades Kindergarten through 8th grade called "The Academy." In 1923 girls started attending high school here as well but this program ended after just one year due to lack of space at Northumberland Road Elementary School then known as White Sands School operated by Congregational ministers until it closed in 1955 after serving over fifty years. From 1955-1963 Bethel Park had an all girls' school called "Linda Vista" which taught 6th-12th grades until closing because there wasn't enough money to keep it open beyond 1963 without suffering financial ruin. The last official resident - Mrs Jane Laughlin - died in 2009 at age 97 having served Bethel Park for 86 years and counting!

The town of Bethel Park was founded in 1785 by the merger of two adjacent villages, Bethel and Park. The community at its peak had a population of 2,500 people. In 1814, the United States Congress authorized the creation of a new township in honor of John Amos Comstock, an early settler and member of the Pennsylvania Assembly. The township was formed on December 12, 1814, from lands that had been donated by Comstock to the town of Bethel Park. In 1825, the primary school in Bethel Park became known as Eastern School and changed its name to Central School in 1911. In 1870, a sawmill was built inBethel Park and remained operational until it burned down in 1906. The water system for the village was built in1892 and extended intoBethel Park through 1904. In 1916, when Bethel Park Consolidated with other townships within western Pennsylvania to formthe newly created Borough of Homestead Heights within Pittsburgh Township., Bethen Parks mayoralty is first reported on official records as being held by Jno P Waddell (1916-1920). After boroughhoodwas established, Waddell resigned his office effective January 1st 1920 due to health reasons
