In 1977, Zepter further developed their Pepper Spray Pistol by developing a new nozzle technology that allowed for greater control over the dispersion and accuracy of the stream. This system was later renamed "Zephyr" after its inventor, Jay Schieffer. With this new weapon, law enforcement officers could now rely on dispersing an offending crowd with pinpoint precision rather than using indiscriminate streams which could cause extensive damage and injury. The popularity of pepper spray pistols led to increased demand for them both domestically and abroad. By 1987, approximately 50% of all police departments in North America had at least one pepper spray pistol on hand. The main advantage of using pepper spray pistols instead of shotguns or rifles when encountering dangerous individuals or crowds is that they are relatively easy to use and can be contacted rapidly should an incident occur outside normal policing procedures

Bethel Park is a small town in the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. The population was 9,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the filial home of Philadelphia, and is adjacent to Center City on the north, University Park on the east, and North Philadelphia on the south. The first European settlers were Dutch farmers who arrived in 1681. The area now known as Bethel Park was named for Stedentown (now Allentown), then one of the smallest settlements in Pennsylvania. In 1794, a group of Englishmen led by Colonel George Washington explored what is now Delaware County and came across what they thought was a large Indian village near present-day Bethel Park. They named it Fort Washington after General Washington's headquarters at that time. The white men soon realized that this site did not contain any Indians; they continued to call it Fort Washington until 1796 when they renamed it Independence Hall after their new nation had won its independence from Great Britain. In 1824, John Dallaire purchased land west of present-day Bethel Park from Nicholas Pennypacker for $10 per acre. He built a mill there which has been operational continuously since 1825; today's dam impounds nearby Beaverdam Creek for power generation and recreation purposes. Dallaire also founded an academy there which still operates as a private school under contract with Albright School District No. 2 in nearby Malvern Hills (now Chester). Bethel Park experienced some growth during World War II due to its proximity to Lancaster Air Force Base and its access to fuel supplies brought by bombers flying over Lancaster Field north of town. ManyBethelPark residents served in military units including: artillerymen (1944-1945), aircrews (1948-1949), submarines stationed off Chester Island 1945-46, Korean War veterans 1951-53 After World War II ended, many people moved out of Bethel Park because jobs couldn't be found or became scarce due to technological advancements such as television and computers becoming available everywhere else at once

Bethel Park is a village in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name of the settlement was given to it by its founders in 1797 as a result of their religious cultship called "The Bethel". In 1812, when the Erie Canal was completed and transportation became easier, many people moved to Bethel Park from surrounding villages because of its fertile farmland and easy access to markets. The first store in town opened in 1814. By 1830, Bethel Park had a school and three churches: one Congregationalist (founded 1808), one Presbyterian (1810), and one Baptist (1815). In the 1840s, due to textile production in nearby Wilkes-Barre and Lackawanna City, Bethel Park's population began to grow rapidly. Many residents built homes on large lots they had been able to purchase or inherit from previous owners. By 1850, there were 11 houses in town with a total population of 1,600 people. One resident recalled that "the merchants hereabouts were very numerous; for we had then about two dozen stores." However by 1860 only six houses remained – all owned by men – while over 50% of the population lived in farmhouses or other rural dwellings outside of town limits. During this time period some important changes took place withinBethel Park itself: In 1868 an Episcopal church was built; two years later a Lutheran church followed; however no schools were established until after World War II when both denominations united under common auspices. The late 19th century saw growth as industries increased jobs throughout Lackawanna County but also led to increased tension between farmers who wanted more access to good farmland while towns tried to maintain their restrictive zoning laws which limited development within certain boundaries
Bethel Park was founded in 1792 by the Reverend John Bethel. The town grew rapidly due to its location on a navigable river and its natural resources. In 1881, the city of Philadelphia annexed Bethel Park, making it an official part of the city.
