Bethel Park is a borough in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,021 at the 2010 census. It is part of thePhiladelphia–Camden– Hispanicsburg, PA-NJ-DE-MD Combined Statistical Area. The first European settlers in what is now Bethel Park were Dutch and Swedes who arrived in 1688. The English founded the town of Easton in 1718 on the western border of Philadelphia along with other areas east of Market Street. In 1794, Bethel Park was named for Rev. John Bethel who had helped found nearby Easton and also served as pastor there from 1794 to 1801. From 1802 to 1812, Bethel Park was part of the Second District of Philadelphia under Mayor James Craighead. When Philadelphia became a city in 1854, it lost its eastern district and all but 2% of its total area went to form what is now known as Borough Hall Hillside (the rest being annexed by Reading). In 1868, when the city annexed Readington Township from Bucks County, it gained control over most of what would become Bethel Park including much rural land that had been part of Readington Township since before it was incorporated as a township. In 1902Bethel Park's first public school opened which continued until 1978 when Parnell Primary School opened across Broad Street from City Hall which continues to be open today In 1906 they started a grocery store on Walnut Street called the Grosse Pointe Grocery store which closed in 1971 but parts are still standing today

Bethel Park is a small town in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what became Bethel Park were Quakers who arrived from England in 1795. They built a small farm on the south side of the Monongahela River and named it after their Meeting House (now known as Bethel Presbyterian Church). In 1814, they erected a larger farmhouse on land that now makes up most of the eastern edge of the town. The original site of Bethel Park has been lost to time and development but remains one of its most important historical landmarks. The town was officially incorporated on December 12, 1825 by act of Congress under the name "New Kensington." This was due to fears that other nearby towns would gain an undue influence over Bethel Park's affairs and prevent it from developing into a full-fledged community. At first,Bethel Park consisted only of a few homes and shops along Second Street between US 22nd and 23rd Streets. However, growth quickly surpassed expectations and within just five years,the town had developed an extensive General Store/Cherokee Indian School (later renamed Bethel Academy),Apostolic Methodist Church (later renamed First Baptist Church),A Masonic Lodge No 1 (later known as New Lebanon Presbyterian church), several schools including Harpers Ferry High School (opened in 1827),and two churches - First Baptist Church and Apostolic Methodist Church - with services held twice weekly inside respective buildings respectively. In 1830, when Second Street became state Routes 31st and 32nd Streets crossing PA Route 21 near present day White Oak Drive,the growing town acquired access to improved transportation options which helped spur further development including: incorporation of Westmoreland Township which included much of today's eastern border; construction of roads leading directly to downtown Pittsburgh; establishment by then-Governor John Armstrong OFPA (1830-1835)of what is now known as Armstrong State College; Borough Act No 2 passed by PA Legislature on February 3rd 1835 providing for creation & organization of boroughs throughout Allegheny County; erection by Hezekiah Potter – then Mayor Of Pittsburgh –of Potter's Mills Dam which formed Lake Erie across moors east & west dune line creating vast business opportunity for future generations; building commenced on October 9th 1836 when he constructed dam across Monongahella River creating 14 lots measuring 160 rods × 80 rods each (& still standing); this property forms today’s eastern edge & southern border adjoining Clearfield Township
In 1777, the area that is now Bethel Park was part of the Province of Pennsylvania. The first European to settle in what is now Bethel Park was James Wilson, a Scottish-American who came to Pennsylvania in 1751. In 1815, the area became part of the Township of York. In 1828, Township of York was merged into the Borough of Prospect Heights. In 1892, Bethel Park became a borough and in 1916 it became a city. On July 1, 1922, Bethel Park become part of the new City of Philadelphia through an act by Mayor John Fenton.
