Bethel Park is a small town in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,871 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern border of York and Montgomery counties, about 12 miles (19 km) north of Harrisburg. Bethel Park is one of five townships in York County. The first people to live in what would become Bethel Park were Quakers from Northampton County who arrived in 1757. They built their Meeting House on Forbes Road near the present day library. In 1827, a group of Presbyterian ministers from Lancaster brought over 100 acres (40 ha) of land east of the Susquehanna River to form what would become Bethel Park. The first church was dedicated in 1829 and named for Elizabeth Peake Bishop, the widow of Colonel John Bishop who had donated land for a Methodist church in Northampton County. The original white settlers were mostly farmers with some mechanics and laborers coming over during the 1830s and 1840s after canal construction started nearby. By 1850, there were more than 120 residents living in Bethel Park with around 50% being farmers or their families. The early years were difficult as most land was bought by wealthy landowners who refused to sell it to poor immigrants because they feared they would take away the best farmland or build homes that could block views out of their home villages—a practice known as "ghettoization." However, through hard work and determination these pioneers turned Bethel into one of Pennsylvania's smallest but most prosperous cities by 1860 when its population reached 1,000 people

The economy of bethel park has always been based on manufacturing and agriculture which produced fruits and vegetables as well as textiles such as clothing and carpets. Today, many businesses are located within walking distance of each other including two grocery stores as well as pharmacies and schools
The first settlement in Bethel Park was a small group of farmers who erected a cabin on the hill above the present day intersection of North Second and West Third Streets in 1837. The original settler, Isaac Myrick, died in 1838. In 1865, James P. Haddix purchased land west of Bethel Park from the State of Pennsylvania for $2,500. He laid out a town site that included what is now the north side of Second Street and west side of West Third Street. In 1868, Haddix donated land to the Presbyterian Church for use as a cemetery. A new church was built on this site in 1879 and Gothic Revival style architecture became popular throughout America during this time period. The congregation moved to their present location in 1917 when they acquired an adjacent property which included two blocks east of Second Street between North First and North Fourth Streets. The Interurban Railway reached Bethel Park by way of Slippery Rock Road in 1915 and began serving the communityitate multiple times daily including one trip per day to Pittsburgh through downtown Philadelphia until it was discontinued in 1951. In 1947, Bethel Park annexed nearby Springdale Township which increased its population by over 50%. In 1957,Bethel Park formed a second municipality with its own government called "Village" under which it continued to operate separate fromPhiladelphia until 1973 when both municipalities merged into one City). On November 26th,1973 Mayor Wolfson announced that Township-wide annexation had been approved resulting in the incorporation of all unincorporated areas withinBethel Park effective immediately!
