Bethel Park is a small town in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. It was once part of the independent township of Bethlehem, but was annexed by Bethlehem in 1907. The population of Bethel Park was 2,752 at the 2010 census. Bethel Park is located on the south side of the Lehigh River, just south of Interstate 81/U.S. Route 38 and east of Interstate 95. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. The name "Bethel" is from Hebrew and means "place where God is." The original settlers were Dutch people who named their farm "Het Heilige Berg," or "The Holy Mountain." In 1821, Abraham Lincoln visited Het Heilige Berg and gave his blessing to its inhabitants before leaving for Illinois. In 1853, John Dorney built a gristmill on what is now Elm Street in Bethel Park; this mill became known as Hagerstown dam after him. In 1907, Bethlehem annexed Bethel Park as part of its municipal limits when it merged with other townships in Lehigh County including Allentown and Easton. Today, Bethel Park continues to be an unincorporated community within Bethlehem Township with its own government and school system. In 1936-37 (the early years of World War II),Bethel Park hosted one thousand refugees from Nazi Germany who had fled into America during that time period because many German Americans felt scared about being drafted into military service under Hitler's regime

Bethel Park was founded in 1792 by Reverend Samuel Morse and his wife, Susanna. The hamlet was named for the biblical town of Bethel, which is located in present-day Israel. Reverend Morse and his wife first settled in what is now Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, but soon moved to what is now Bethel Park because of the good soil and mild climate. In 1800, Reverend Morse donated 1/4 acre of land to the Baptist Church of America for use as a Sunday school ground. Reverend Morse also donated an additional 1/4 acre to be used as a burying ground. In 1814, General John Custer passed through the area on his way from Fort Laramie toraid Sheridan Campaign against Native Americans at Sand Creek Station. While passing through the area on his way back home from that campaign, he stopped at Bethel Park for dinner and lunch before continuing on his journey. That night he camped near Sand Creek Station and spent the night there before continuing his journey the next day. The first post office opened in Bethel Park on October 12, 1818. On November 2nd, 1828, Revd Samuel Morse died suddenly at age 67 while preaching at a revival meeting at Riddle's Chapel near Uniontown (now part of Allentown). His widow Susanna continued to preach until her death in 1830; she is buried there with her husband beside her late husband’s gravestone. The current pastor of the Baptist Church of America is Dr. Mark Sweeny who pastors services every other Saturday morning from 9:00am-10:30am EST since November 2017
In 1787, the area that is now Bethel Park was part of the Susquehanna Valley. The first settler in what is now Bethel Park, George Washington, bought land from the Lenape people in 1793. In 1800, John Snyder purchased some of Washington's land. In 1812, Abraham Lincoln and his party passed through the area on their way to Gettysburg.
