In 1868, when Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States, he moved his family to nearby Springfield to run for office. This event helped spur development in Bethlehem because people then had access to better transportation and more opportunities for job hunting outside of their homes. Over time many other families followed suit (including many who originally came from Germany) making Bethel Park one of the most diverse communities in Pennsylvania. Today Bethel Park is still a small but vibrant community with close-knit relationships among its residents based on shared values such as respect for life, love of nature, honesty, faithfulness to parents/guardianship of young children etcetera. It has also developed into an important hub for cultural activities in central PA with many local artists and musicians hailing from or visiting Bethel Park every day!
