The Bethel Park Rifle Association (BPA) was founded in 1903. The organization has been around since the days of muzzleloaders and early rifle shooters. Airguns have been a part of the BPA's arsenal for over 100 years. In 1959, the BPA became an airgun shooting federation with affiliate member organizations in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. In 1978, the Federation adopted a resolution to allow importation of airguns into Pennsylvania from other states. This step began what is now a long history of cooperation between airgun enthusiasts in Pennsylvania and those from other states. In 1980, the Federation created its own museum which is located on North Second Street in Bethel Park. The museum contains more than 20 displays on firearms,airguns,and related topics. It also offers educational seminars on various aspects of gun safety and NRA courses on target shooting, shotgunning, reloading, single shot rifles, shotguns and more.

Bethel Park is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,468 at the 2010 census. Bethel Park is located on the border of Berks and Lackawanna counties. The first settlers in what is now Bethel Park were farmers who arrived in 1786 from Northampton County, Pennsylvania. They named their tract of land "Bethel" after the then-unknown religious denomination that they believed to be present among them. The community's growth began slowly but steadily during the early 1800s as more people moved into the area to take advantage of its fertile soil and numerous hunting and fishing opportunities. By 1827, Bethel Park had become a thriving village with over 100 residents and was home to a school, store, blacksmith shop, post office and church. Through hard work and determination, however, some of the original settlers continued to grow Bethel Park into one of Pennsylvania's most vibrant communities by developing such important businesses as a sawmill (owned by John Pugh), an ice cream business (owned by Jacob Sweeny) and a grocery store (owned by Elijah Warrington). In 1912, when Philadelphia became the new national capital following its incorporation as an independent country under the United States Constitution; Bethel Park became one of several towns withinPhiladelphia' newly formed Borough government. It remained part of Philadelphia until 1959 when it again became its own borough under Borough government laws enacted pursuant to statehood legislation which took effect on July 1st that year. Bethel Park was a small, unincorporated community located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded by the Reverend John Bethel on November 10, 1827. The community had a population of twenty-eight people when it was closed in 1896. The first post office at Bethel Park was opened on October 17, 1828. The name of the town changed from "Bethel" to "Park" on October 1, 1856. On July 15, 1896, the town closed because of lack of residents.
Bethel Park was originally laid out in 1792 by General George Washington as part of the original townsite on the southern border of Philadelphia. The name is derived from the word "bethel" which means "holy place." The first settlers in what is now Bethel Park were Quakers who arrived in 1795. In 1812, the township was organized and named for Reverend Elijah Hicks, a Presbyterian minister who had helped found Mount Zion Church in Philadelphia. The first post office at Bethel Park was established in 1815 and continued to serve until it was discontinued in 1836. In 1854, a sawmill and gristmill were built here. The mill closed down around 1912 but the millrace that ran along its banks still remains today as a popular swimming spot. In 1905, two schools were built here: one for boys and one for girls. These schools remain operational to this day. In 1922, the first baseball team was formed here and played its first game against West Chester Academy. Today, Bethel Park is home to several different sports teams including football ( Gridiron ), baseball ( Penn League ) and soccer ( United Soccer League ).
