In 1905, Berwick annexed what are now parts of Lackawanna and Westmoreland counties into its municipal boundaries. As a result of this annexation, Berwick grew rapidly and reached its peak population size of 11,000 in 1960; however since then it has slowly declined due to commuting costs and other factors such as suburban sprawl within easy distance for many residents. Berwick has two churches: First Presbyterian Church (founded 1819) and Saint Michael's Catholic Church (founded 1903). The first post office was established here in 1814. As more settlers arrived,Berwick grew rapidly until it reached its peak population of 10,000 by 1870 when logging began to take over the economy and development slowed down significantly. By 1920 only 1,500 people remained in Berwick - a decrease of 90% since its peak population! In World War II many residents took up arms to fight for the Allied cause and helped contribute to victories such as Operation Market Garden and Normandy Beach. After the war many residents chose to stay away from farming or manufacturing because there were no jobs available after the war ended; however some did return home while others started new businesses or made moves out of state altogether. Today much has changed for Berwick since its heyday as a small rural community; however most citizens still enjoy their easygoing lifestyle with plenty of time for relaxng activities like fishing, hiking, swimming & golfing; all within easy reach should you decide to move here!
