The area now known as Baldwin, Pennsylvania was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. A post office called Baldwin was established in 1795, and remained in operation until 1865. In 1814, the United States Congress passed an act creating a government-owned land grant to provide for the development of what is now Baldwin County. The grant was named after General John Forbes Bannerman, who had helped lead American forces during the War of 1812. The original boundaries of the county were much broader, including all of present-day Berks County and parts of Schuylkill and Montgomery counties. However, because of population growth and pressure from settlers on the east side of the Susquehanna River, the borders were narrowed in 1828 to include only Baldwin County proper. In 1830, a group of Scottish immigrantslanded in Steuben County and began to purchase land around Yorktown Township. They named their new settlement Dundee after their home country. Soon enough, other Scotsmen arrived in eastern Pennsylvania to take up similar farming practices and name their settlements accordingly: Irvine (the current city of Pittsburgh), Balmoral (now Scranton), Kincardine (now Clearwater Beach), Bonar (now town namesakeBarbourville), Deerfield (Now West Allis), etc. By 1840, most people living near Yorktown Township had adopted this Scottish surnames too. Scopes opened his first microscope shop at 7 Mill Street in downtown Baldwinsville on December 12th 1838 which he operated successfully for six months before moving out due to difficulties with competition from other businesses in that industry at that time such as Smith & Nephew's Camera Shop right next door at 11 Mill Street which also becamesuccessful soon afterwards followed by Fenton's Glass Works near where IMAX is today located at 15Th & Penn Streets just south of downtown Baldwinsville across from Bethlehem Steel Company buildings then finally Wernham & Nephew's Photographic Store on Market Street between Third Avenue northward just eastof Downtown Baldwinsville

Baldwin was a small town in the state of Pennsylvania, located in southwestern Tioga County. The population was 549 at the 2000 census. Baldwin is known as the "Queen City" because it has been ruled by three monarchs: King George II of England, Queen Victoria of Scotland and Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria. It also served as capital of the United States from 1785 to 1801. The first permanent settler in Baldwin was Elias Greenleaf who arrived in 1784. He founded Greenleaf's Mills on what is now Elm Street. The first school in Baldwin was built on North Main Street in 1812 by Rev. John Sheafe and taught school until 1840 when it moved to what is now First Presbyterian Church on Market Square. In 1818, General James Wilkinson erected a fine brick courthouse on Market Square which remains standing today. This building served as the county seat for Tioga County until 1861 when Morristown replaced it due to its larger population and more convenient location. In 1830, Baldwin got its start with two steamboats that paddled down the Susquehanna River between relieve points for farmers along their way to marketplaces in Philadelphia and New York City; one called "The White Eagle" (later renamed "The Star") and another called "The Dolphin". These boats operated until 1841 when they were replaced by canals dug through deep earth floors near present day downtown Baldwin with pumps to create lift water levels so that barges could be unloaded at high tide while being loaded at low tide onto waiting ships or cars waiting belowon Beaver Dam Creek where they were taken across Bear Creek Bridge over Susquehanna River into Chester County, Pennsylvania under tow to trucks parked on ramps leading out into New Jersey or Delaware Bay where they were unloaded and shipped back home again! The canal system linked many villages around central Pennsylvania creating an ever-growing commercial center during this time period which continues today as Downtown Baldwin merchants continue to serve local customers from their businesses situated along Beaver Dam Creek, Elm Street, Market Square, Second Avenue South & West Court Street squares or within walking distance from each other!
Baldwin was founded in 1768 by George Washington and the town was named for him. The first post office in Baldwin opened in 1793. In 1838, Baldwin became a railroad town and the first incorporated municipality in Pennsylvania.
