Baldwin, Pennsylvania is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. Baldwin is part of the Erie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Baldwin was James Baldwin who arrived there in 1798. He built a cabin on the east side of town and named it after his father-in-law and mentor John Stevens. In 1824, Gilbert Keith moved to Baldwin from Lancaster and started a tannery there that became one of the largest tanneries in America. In 1825, Abraham Baldwin also moved to Baldwin from Lancaster and established an agricultural community called Baldwinsville near present day North Park Avenue and East Market Street. In 1828, Josephine Ladd came to Baldwin from Canonsburg with her husband John Ladd Jr., another early settler. They founded what is now known as the Ladd House Museum which houses artifacts associated with their family including tools used by both parents during their farming career as well as memorabilia from various family events over time such as weddings, baptisms, funerals etc.).
