The Altoona gun community experienced a number of firearm tragedies in the early 21st century. In 1911, four people were killed when a disgruntled employee opened fire at the local grocery store. Two years later, an innocent bystander was fatally shot by an Altoona gunman while walking to buy ice cream. In 1915, five people were killed and thirteen injured when a shotgun blast hit a theater in downtown Altoona. In 1918, two members of the same family were gunned down at their home after playing with handguns in the backyard. In 1922, three young women were killed and six injured when gunmen opened fire on what turned out to be a prank call from another person's home. In 1924, two cousinsambushed and shoots one another as they drove around town in their car; both killers died from their wounds. ) Two years later, three men (all illegal aliens) shooting into a crowd at Arby's restaurant pulled over for driving without headlights shot and killed one man and wounded seven others before escaping with their car. In 1926-27 therewere three fatal shootings involving shotguns within seventy-eight hours: One victim was murdered after getting lost inside his own house; another was shot dead after leaving work for dinner; and yet another was found dead with several gunshot wounds following an argument over who would get to play at someone else's party that night
Altoona is a city in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 21,851 at the 2010 census. Altoona is the principal city of Altoona-Johnstown Borough. The first people to live in what is now Altoona were Native Americans who used the area for hunting and fishing. In 1814, John Hays founded the settlement of Altoona on land that he had purchased from the Lenape Indians. The town grew quickly due to its location near rapids on the Monongahela River and its easy access to transportation including a canal crossing from Beaverdam Creek into the Susquehanna River. In 1821, John Beeching organized a group of capitalists who bought land in what is now Altoona and established Beeching Township. By 1830, there were six settlements in Beeching Township: Altoona, Blacklick (now Allentown), Buchanan (now Greencastle), Hawley (now Hazleton), Lawrenceville (now Latrobe), and Mount Pleasant (today's borough). During the American Civil War, many residents served in various units along with their governments such as Union Army General George Armstrong Custer's 4th Cavalry Regiment which fought at Little Bighorn Battlefield in Montana; Confederate General Robert Ewell's 4th Infantry Brigade which fought at Gettysburg; and General Ulysses S. Grant's 7th Iowa Infantry Brigade which fought at Petersburg Peninsula. Of note are local militiamen Private First Class Levi Coffin who helped lead an attack against Confederate entrenched positions during Battle of Antietam; Corporal George Kelly who led his unit through Union lines during Pickett's Charge; Sergeant Amos Kemble who was awarded posthumous troops' Medal of Honor for gallantry while serving as military intelligence officer under Cemetery Ridge; Private First Class John Pritchard who died leading an assault against Rebel forces at Chickamauga National Park after being shot through both legs by a cannonball while attempting to cross over an open trench

From earliest days of firearm usage, target shooting has been an essential part of military training and practice. shotguns, handguns and rifles have all been used to shoot at targets since the early 1800s. The use of guns as targets dates back to at least 1795 when Captain John Montresor shot a small game animal from his ship’s bow with a rifle. Rifle firing at moving objects is first documented in 1825 when Lieutenant James Wilkinson fired a ball into an apple tree while travelling downriver on the USS Constitution. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell used an artillery piece to shoot six rounds at an old fort in Virginia Beach; this was the first time gunfire had been conducted within sight of human beings on U.S soil since the Revolution. With advances in technology, gun ranges began expanding rapidly during World War I (1914-18). It was not until after World War II thatgun Target Shooting became truly popular across America; however, there is no question that rifle shootings still play a significant role in military ceremonies and operations today.

Altoona, Pennsylvania is a small town located in the Susquehanna River Valley of western Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1795 by the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolutionary War. The area now includes Altoona and parts of Clearfield Township, Armstrong Township, and Monroe Township. The population was 27,822 as of 2010. Altoona is part of the Pittsburgh-Erie-Johnstown Combined Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Altoona was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 on his way from Italy to North America. He named it "Aosta" after his home country, Venice. In 1795, General George Washington's army crossed the Susquehanna River at Altoona and fought its way southward along its banks for several days before finally reaching Chambersburg, Maryland on October 14th celebrations marking their successful crossing of the enemy's line of defense. On November 3rd, 1795, Congress passed an act entitled "An Act For Taking possession Of Certain Lands Claimed By America upon her Arrival In these United States", which gave recognition to President George Washington's claim to all land west of Pittsburgh including present day Allegheny County and much of Westmoreland County as well as most or all of Butler County (including Allentown). On December 1st(), Washington notified Congress that he had received notification from Spain that she had ceded Florida to America via a treaty dated November 16th,. This event marked the beginning of what would become known as the Seminole Wars between Spain and America over this territory. In 1814, during Andrew Jackson's term as president due to his Indian Removal Policies, many settlers started arrive in what is now Altoona searching for new land grants or opportunity in newly acquired states such as Kansas Territory Territory or Texas Republic while others streamed into Altoona looking for work on canal projectsPS Railroad construction began here also during this time frame but soon stopped due lack interest) After one year with no luck finding any new land grants through legal channels or working off farm stock until March 25th 1815 when James Kapp offered him 320 acres near present day Monroeville for $5 per acre which became known as "the first bona fide grant ever given by Americans." This so called "Kapp Grant" has been cited variously by historians as being one reason why early Settlers adopted names such as Keystone Taverns - built around 1830 where whiskey sales continued even after prohibition began
