In 1903, Charles Hennepin Arms Corporation founded an arms manufacturing business in Altoona which would become one of America's largest rifle manufacturers; Charles Hennepin Arms Corporation is still operating today with more than 50 locations across North America including plants located in Altoona PA! The origins of modern rifle design lie with Captain James Fenton of HMS Beagle fame whose experience with shipboard artillery led him to develop what we now call an FN SCAR (Forward Looking Infrared) weapon system! Captain Fenton's design featured a telescoping stock that allowed it to be fitted onto any existing muzzleloader or shotgun making it possible for infantrymen or Marines on land or sea to fire their machineguns from long ranges without penalty!
