Allentown is a city in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Lehigh County after Bethlehem. The area now comprising Allentown was first settled by Native American tribes in the early 17th century. The Susquehanna River served as the natural border between East and West Allentown until 1764 when a fortification line was drawn along that river. In 1837, John Fitzpatrick built a gristmill on what is now Market Street in what is now downtown Allentown. In 1865, George Stephenson invented and developed the locomotive railway system which facilitated transportation of goods to and from New York City via Valley Forge. This event helped bring about increased economic development in Allentown, which led to its incorporation as a borough on November 14, 1867. At that time, it had a population of just over 2,500 people. By 1880, however, the population had reached 10,000 people and alluvial deposits beneath downtown caused water levels to increase rapidly and necessitated construction of new streets and infrastructure; this led to an even larger influx of residents into downtown Allentown during this period During World War II (1941-1945), local businesses joined with other businesses throughout North America to produce munitions for the war effort through Operation Paperclip. Many local residents were drafted or served in military units engaged in fighting overseas; collectively they made up one third of all male Philadelphia residents ages 20–44 during World War II Afterward, Downtown Allentown experienced rapid growth thanks to revitalization efforts associated with the post-war boom years (1948-1960). This period saw significant reconstruction of landmarks such as First Presbyterian Church (now Stroud Center for Art & Culture) and Mayor Harry Wohl’s creation of “The Square” –formerly known as Third Street South – which became home to many high-end businesses including JB Lumber Company/National Cash Register Company/Wright Cycle Company/. However , vandalism remains a relatively low priority for police officers because most victims are individuals who have no means or desire to defend themselves . As a result of this change, most businesses outside of downtown were closed during what is now known as "The Great Depression". In 1933, when Bethlehem Steel Corporation merged with other companies to form DuPont Company, Allentown became one of its constituent companies under du Pont's umbrella.Du Pont eventually sold its interests in Allentown in 1957 to Bethlehem Steel Corporation which continued to operate it as an industrial center until 1984 when it was placed into receivership and then bankruptcy. In 1984, all surface transportation within town was discontinued due to extensive flooding caused by Hurricane Agnes which had devastated much of central Pennsylvania that year. This left downtown with only a few stores open and limited access to services such as food delivery or taxis; this situation changed after some entrepreneurs set up shop inside buildings which survived damage from the storm and began offering basic services like grocery deliveries and taxi service back home again within weeks

On January 1, 1833, tiny Allentown had a population of just 4 residents when it became one of thirteen townships within Lehigh County under Act No. 611 which created that counties system among other changes mandated by Andrew Johnson's New Deal government during World War II. That same year saw also the opening of First Presbyterian Church located at Sixth and Market Streets which soon became known as "The Heart Of Christ." By 1860 all but two businesses in town had closed due to lack of customers or competition from larger neighboring towns such as Bethlehem or Scranton with their large populations (over 10 times greater than Anytown). However some businesses slowly reopened including tailor shop operated by Hiram Jansen which continued until about 1870; grocers Muhlenberg & Sons operated until about 1910; hardware store built by Arents & Strauss around 1840; drugstore built by Jacob Weiser around 1830 - this business lasted until 1865 when it was destroyed by fire; hotel later built across Seventh Street from current day Post Office building - this structure served as both Hotel Lancaster (1890-1910) and Post Office (1910-present). Two years after Congress approved legislation creating Blair Township on November 8th 1913 following much debate over boundaries between township lines within Lehigh County caused by Act No1 §2(a), 3rd US Congress chaptered An act supplementary thereto entitled “An act to provide for boundary lines between certain townships withinLehigh county” – this act provided for creationof Blair Township based upon square miles remaining unoccupied east and west sides thereof lying northwardly thereof relative to existing communities situated therein westwardly thereof including any portion lying southwesterly thereof relative to said existing communities comprising less than 2/5ths sectional area – thus forming an increase in land area over what had beenexisting portions therein since Treaty OF Paris ending war with Great Britain dated February 14th 1783! This result may be traced back to efforts ledby George Washington himself prior to his inaugurationJanuary 20th 1789 seeking satisfaction via negotiations with Great Britain over claims made pursuant TO THE TREPATRIATION POLICY OF GREAT BRITAIN UPON ITS BREAK WITH AMERICA BY PURPOSES OF ESTABLISHING AN ALLENTOWN FREE AND INDIVIDUAL TRADE COMPANIONSHIP!
