A school district was created out of these three townships on October 14th 1850 via an act entitled Anact relative to School Districts - Part II (1851), with Superintendent Jeremiah Nevin appointed effective date November 9th following passage thereof by Senate Resolution 54-2 p&p (February 21st 1851). The first high school classes were offered at Dickinson College from September 1861 until January 1865 due to lack of space thereupon!
