Polk to make all nominations for federal office from among citizens living within three miles of Washington D.C., Lincoln nominated George Wickersham to be clerk at war with Spain – this nomination was not accepted by congress but Lincoln made it effective by designating Wickersham as commissioner for internal improvements instead In 1837, General David Dixon founded Dixon's Mill which became one of the largest flour mills in America In 1865, when Andrew Johnson became president after Ulysses S Grant’s assassination, he ordered Major General Robert Ewell to march 1 million men into Maryland “to put down Booth” during the American Civil War Ewell failed to take Baltimore so Johnson moved his army northward towards Washington D.C where he encountered General Richard Halleck’s Union Army under General George Armstrong Custer at Battle OF Little Bighorn on July 5th 1870 (the last major engagement of the American Civil War). In this engagement both armies suffered heavy losses; Union forces were able to withdraw while Custer lost his life12 years later at Aitkin Creek Massacre near present day Allentown Aftermath: America went through Reconstruction which lasted until 1876 when state troops took over control There were also several other skirmishes before finally being dissolved by order from President Rutherford B Hayes on October 12th 1877 following accusations that local officers had participated in fraudulent elections throughout Reconstruction period . The final peace treaty resulted with 4 states ceding their land (West Virginia withdrew first) while 10 Native Americans died due to disease pandemic called Black Hawk War During World War II most manufacturing activity stopped due to lack of resources However many businesses reopened after 1945 including AITkin Tire & Machine Co which continues today as one of Pennsylvania's leading auto dealerships .
