Aliquippa is a small town in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,494 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown-Wilkes-Barre Metropolitan Statistical Area. Aliquippa was first settled by Germans in 1795 and became a borough in 1802. The name "Aliquippa" comes from an Algonquian word meaning "little stream." In 1809, the village was incorporated as a town. The history of Aliquippa can be traced back to two early German settlers who discovered rich coal seams near present-day Aliquippa and decided to settle there. Johann Gottlieb Hahn and his family arrived in 1795, settling on the east bank of the Susquehanna River between what is now First Street and Second Street and naming their new settlement after their home state of Bavaria (now Germany). On March 12, 1800, when it was formally announced that Bethlehem had been chosen as the location for the new township, Hahn recommended that his brother Johann Georg move his family to Bethlehem because he felt closer to friends and relatives there than he did in Lehigh County. On October 8 of that year, John Schultz also moved from Bethlehem to Aliquippa with his wife Anna Maria Schneider; they were followed by four other families: Michael Eichelberger (1797–1847), Wilhelm Freytag (1800–1868), Jost Bredeker (1800–1865) and Christian Hummel (1800–1884). They built homes along Third Street between Main Avenue and Fourth Street until 1815 when they moved southward on State Road 9 along Third Avenue to build what is now Fourth Street between Main Avenue and Ithaca Streets where they remained until 1839 when they sold their property eastward for $2 million ($ as of 2007). In 1802, following complaints from local farmers about high prices for cotton$ caused by British shipments embargoed at Philadelphia docks due to America's involvement in War of 1812 against Great Britain , Township trustees passed a resolution asking President George Washington for permission to establish a post office at Aliquippa which would offer necessary postal services during this time period without having anything else physical within its boundaries. On July 6th George Washington granted this request granting township privileges with respect to Post Office No 2&3 on Easton Road across from today's Penny Arcade Casino & Resort! This event sparked increased development around Post Office No 2&3 including housing developments such as Fillmore Place which still stands today next door! Johann Georg Hahn died on December 21st 1830 leaving four children: Anna Maria (), Johann Friedrich (), Katherina Magdalena (); five grandchildren: Johannes Friedrich (), August Friedrich () Christoph Ludwig (); Nicholas Ludwig (); seven great grandchildren: Frederick Augustus (), Caroline Elizabeth () Ursula Charlotte (). Fourteen siblings survived infancy: Friederike Elisabeth (), Johanne Catharine () Majerus Heinrich() Barbara Carolina Luise Helena Henrietta Sophie Mathilde Dorothee Amalia Feodorine Eleonore Ernestine Franziska Dorothee Friederike Charlotte Agnes Caroline Magdalene Helene Augusta Auguste Rudolph Wilhelm Ernst Ludwig Nicolaus Gustav Ludovico

Aliquippa is a small town in Pennsylvania, located on the Beaverdam Creek. The Aliquippa River forms the eastern border of the town and its ZIP code is 15215. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,821. In 1701, General George Washington's forces destroyed an Iroquois village at present-day Aliquippa after they were harassed by their enemies in what is now Keystone State Park. In 1827, John Dennison laid out Aliquippa Township on land donated by brothers Isaac and John Schuessler. Dennison was a surveyor for Samuel Thomson and Company and traveled throughout Pennsylvania surveying lands for them. In 1828, he purchase two lots in what are now Northumberland County from James Wilson for $1 cash. The first store opened in 1830 in what is now part of central Aliquippa. The township was renamed to Aliquippa Township on November 3, 1852 when it became part of newly created Erie County. On December 12th of that year, voters passed a resolution creating a school district within the new township; this vote followed complaints from residents about lack of education opportunities in neighboring townships. On February 6th of 1893, three weeks before statehood would come into force for Pennsylvania, citizens voted to establish a government within the new county as well – this vote led to establishment of the current government infrastructure including sheriff’s office and court system within Aliquippa Township today! On January 1st 1888 – exactly 50 years ago today – local postmaster J David Heineman placed an order with horses to pick up mail at one of several rural postmastershops deep inside Susquehanna County outside Scranton because his home had been destroyed during fire damage affecting many homes near where he lived (the only destruction incident reported anywhere near Aliquippa). After Heineman's death on October 9th 1925 more than 20 years later some old photographs still survive which show him with then postmaster Charles Fenton picking up mail at various rural postmastershops all over western PA during those days!!!
Aliquippa was founded in 1795 by the Pennsylvanian brothers John and Benjamin Franklin. The town became a important center for logging and farming in the region, and development of industry began in the early 20th century. Aliquippa was incorporated as a city in 1923, and its economy grew increasingly based on services, manufacturing, and agriculture.
