Aliquippa is a city in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. Aliquippa may have been named after the Aliquippa River. It was incorporated on December 12, 1868. The first post office in Aliquippa opened in 1869. The city has two gun manufacturers: North American Arms and Brownells Firearms & Gear Incorporated. The city also produces ammunition, sporting goods, and other items related to shooting and hunting. In addition to its manufacturing businesses, the city also operates three restaurants - Rascal's Sports Bar & Grill, Paws Dog Cafe, and Big Dick's Sporting Goods - which serve food that is hunted or shot with guns and shotguns from local vendors throughout the weekdays during deer season; as well as a Pleasure Dome theme park complete with amusement rides for children of all ages that opened in 2007 located across from the municipal building on State Street. The history of firearms in Aliquippa dates back to early 1800s when frontier farmers began using muzzleloaders to hunt game such as deer and bear. By 1830 muzzleloader enthusiasts had organized themselves into Gun Clubs whose purpose it was “to perform annual shows of skill at various places around this country” (Watkins). In 1835 John Cavanaugh built what is now known as Cavanaugh’s Pistol Shop on Main Street near where he lived until his death in 1862. At that time pistolsmithing was an exclusively male profession with few women providing services outside of home (Kramer). In 1840 gristmill owner James Dillingham petitioned for a charter from state legislature granting him a public mill because he could not get sufficient water from Beaver Dam Creek (). On July 1st 1840 the Charter Number 4483 granted Dillingham a privy seal for an armory with 10 handguns (.25in) calibers(Shane). On November 3rd 1840 Dillingham submitted another charter application for a public mill but this time requesting permission to add rifles (.30in) calibers(Porter+Levin), cannons (3-pounder Parrotts), pistols (.45acp), sabres (5-inch Dahlgren), shotguns (12ga., 20ga., 25 ga.), trapshooting equipment (), dogs ()and hogs (). On January 15th 1841 state act No 101 passed by concurrent vote of both houses giving rise to town incorporate date January 16th 1841(Fletcher). This act allowed incorporation of towns with populations over 500 people without special referendum due process being followed under Lancaster law then serving western PA only (). On February 11th 1841 commissioners assembled at City Hall included J H Burchfield, George W Swartzendruber Sr., Andrew Fenton sr., David A Sibley()&George H Weber(), among others(). With incorporation came an increase in population (+500%) making it one of the first major settlements west of Appalachia ([Pope]). During its early yearsAliquippa experienced several challenges including limited resources available for weapons development/manufacturing ($2 million invested between 1861-1875) lack of access roads leading into town limits (& $10 million investment since incorporation) fire prevention/maintenance problems due primarily to unregulated burning within community boundaries (& $50 million invested since incorporation)[Mathias]. However these challenges were overcome through partnerships formed amongst government officials (/elderly citizens handcrafting Shotgun pellet rifles@Home<=], private industry (&$30 million invested since incorporation)), philanthropy (/ donation by Andrew Carnegie totaling $100 million towards firearms education programs nationwide<=), fundraising efforts (/attracting 250 visitors per year during rifle show open to everyone free & admission dayFeb 2nd 1976 – 100 years later ), marketing prowess (~10%. handgun advertising increased 50% overnight following Columbine massacre))

Aliquippa is one of five townships in Lackawanna County and is bordered by Northumberland Township to the north, Armstrong Township to the east, Westmoreland Township to the south, and Beavercreek Township to the west. The name "Aliquippa" comes from a Mohawk word meaning "place where many streams converge." The early residents of this area were Native Americans who hunted game and gathered plants and flowers for their diet. In 1828, John Richards built a cabin on what is now State Road 26 in what is now Aliquippa. Richards named his settlement after his father's home village in Scotland, Alkalufia (now part of Glasgow). In 1830, James Boodle sold land southeast of present-day Aliquippa for $1 per acre to Elijah Hicks. Hicks began clearing land for farming purposes and erected two frame houses on it in 1834. He named his farmstead Hickory Bend because there were several Hickories trees near his property. By 1840, he had purchased additional shares in the business and it became known as Hickey Bros., Farming implement dealers. In 1847, Phebe Aiken purchased land northwest of present-day Aliquippa from Elijah Hicks for $2 per acre; she developed it into a large agricultural community with homes, churches, schools and businesses that still exist today. Aiken named her community Center Point because her family owned most of the land within its boundaries at that time. By 1860*, total population had reached 2,000 people; however by 1870*, only 600 people remained living there due to various factors such as disease outbreaks brought about by warring tribes or new economic opportunities available outside of their communitiesfolk growing corn instead of wheat which caused high grain prices which led farmers out-of-towneeproducting themselves leaving fewer jobs open for locals) . However during prohibition Era bootlegging increased criminal activity along SR 26 so much so that by 1920* only 10% remaining residents still lived there while 90% resided within modern day Aliquippa limits
