The first post office in Aliquippa was established on October 14, 1824. The name of the post office has been changed numerous times over its history; it most recently was called "Alexandria". By 1860, much of what is now Butler County had been organized as a township; however, Alexandria Township remained until 1861 when it merged into Erie Township. In 1874, Erie Township split into two parts: one portion became Beaver Falls and the other portion became Aliquippa. Beaver Falls incorporated as a city in 1902 while Aliquippa remained an unincorporated community until 1959 when it became a borough. Alquippa is located at (40.760906,-75.544362). The area that is now Aliquippa was part of the Allegheny Valley region of Pennsylvania. The area that is now Aliquippa was first settled by Europeans in the late 17th century. In 1792, the United States acquired much of what is now Pennsylvania from Britain, and in 1815, Aliquippa became a part of the newly formed state of Ohio. In 1847, Ohio annexed parts of Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky to form Tennessee, and Aliquippa fell within Tennessee until it was taken back by Ohio in 1850. The town site at present-day Aliquippa was founded on November 3rd, 1800 by John Stevenson and others as a result of their land purchase from the Creek nation. It was incorporated as a borough on December 6th, 1825. In 1830, Indiana Territory was organized out of portions of Ohio and Michigan Territory. On January 1st, 1830, Indiana Territory included all but part of northwestern Pennsylvania including what is now Aliquippa Township including most if not all of what later becameAlquippa Township including what is now Delaware County
