Woodburn is a town in Curry County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. The name "Woodburn" was derived from the word "wood" and "burn." The town of Woodburn was founded in 1876 by John T. Watkins and others as part of the Willamette Valley Railroad. In 1886, it became part of the newly created Curry County. The first post office was established in Woodburn on December 26, 1887. In 1912, the county seat moved to La Grande and Woodburn became an unincorporated community. In 1916, a new water tower was built in Woodburn and named after Major General George Armstrong Custer. It is one of only two concrete water towers remaining in Oregon (the other being at Bend). The other is at Coos Bay. A gas station opened in 1907 on East Third Street near today's high school campus; this building has been demolished but the foundation remains extant as part of the current high school site. In 1961, Woodbine Elementary School closed its doors for good due to low enrollment; it reopened as a middle school in 1984 under then-councilor Gene Curtis' leadership. After 106 years serving students from grades K-8, it closed again on September 30th of that year due to low enrollments but reopened October 3rd with more than 300 students after much fundraising effort by parents and friends of students at nearby Eagle Creek Middle School which had also closuredue to low enrollment two years earlier On November 10th 2009 woodbine elementary finally closed its doors once again causing many upset parents who were hoping to see their child’s dream come true finally coming true they just had no choice

The first people to live in what is now known as Woodburn came from central Oregon in the early 1800s. The first white person to ever set foot in what is now called Woodburn was J.D. McKay in 1879. At that time, the area consisted of only a few scattered homesteads and some cattle Ranching operations along the Snake River south of where present-day Portland is located. Therowth of the town began slowly but surely during prohibition days in 1920-21 when most local farmers turned their attention towards supplying alcohol to help support their businesses during Prohibition. However, since most farmers were self-sufficient with their own resources, they were not dependent on outside supplies such as goods generated by lumber mills or other factories which had come online during prohibition times due to increased trade between America and Europe. This helped add much needed breathing space for small towns throughout Oregon during this difficult time period! During World War II, much agricultural production took place within miles of Bend because German forces had destroyed large portions of Northwest Oregon's forests prior to hostilities erupting on September 2nd 1941 A day later than planned due largely to weather conditions caused by an EF6 tornado outbreak over Jackson County that week! In all, approximately 135 businesses operated within 3 miles (5 km) radius of Bend at any given time during World War II; making BendOregon one of the largest wartime hubs in Americas!

By 1882, Woodburn had a post office, school, Methodist church, and a sawmill. The town's growth continued until 1907 when it was replaced by what is now Salem.
