The Wilsonville Gunsmiths Association was founded in 1903. The first shooting range in the area was built on the corner of Second and Main Streets. Over time, more ranges were built and other activities such as annual muzzleloader rifle matches, deer hunting and fishing tournaments took place at these locations. In 1935, a new shooting range was constructed on Railroad Road just east of town. This range became known as “The Range” because it served as the primary location for shooting sports in Wilsonville. It remained in use until 1963 when it was replaced by a new facility on Southeast 95th Avenue which is now known as Steele Middle School. Many of the early shooters who frequented The Range came from out of town to shoot at this many courses located within minutes’ walk of their homes or businesses. Ammunition availability also limited how often people could shoot so there wasn’t much need for eye protection back then. From 1916 until 1978 there was only one school teaching grades K-12; however since then there have been three high schools with classes ranging from 7th through 12th grade: North High School (opened 1999), Southern High School (opened 2003), and Keizer Polytechnic Institute (opened 2007). In 1951, Seattle City Limits merged with Portland to become Portland/Wilsonville (PWA). Today, Seattle City Limits remains an independent municipality with its own government and school system.

In 1984, Wilsonville annexed most of rural McKenzie County to become a single municipality with its own government. On January 1, 2006, the old city limits were restored to their original sizes within the new municipality and all residents were re-elected on an at-large basis using Utah voting methodologies instead of ward system elections which had been used previously.
