Wilsonville is a small town in Oregon, located on the banks of the Willamette River. The community was founded in 1883 by John A. Wilson and his wife, Emma. Wilsonville is also home to several famous institutions such as Hillsboro Museum of Art (founded in 1915), which features artwork from throughout history; and Horseshoe Bend National Monument (established in 1938), which contains hiking trails and overlooks near where the Willamette River flows into Lake Oswego
Wilsonville was founded in 1847 by James A. Wilson and his wife, Nancy. The town was named for General John C. Fremont, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as Governor of Oregon. In 1863, Wilsonville became the seat of Clackamas County after it was organized from parts of Multnomah and Clackamas counties. In 1870, the county's population reached 10,000 people; however, it only grew to 15,000 residents by 1880 due to immigration from Europe and Asia. The arrival of railroad passengers helped spur economic development in Wilsonville during the late 19th century; this included both the construction of businesses such as a flour mill and a sawmill and the growth of local industries like meatpacking and shoe manufacturing. In 1922, Wilsonville joined College Grove Township in becoming part of Oregon City; however, it reverted back to its original name in 1959 when Oregon City incorporated as a city with its own mayor and council system. Today, Wilsonville is an unincorporated community located within College Grove Township
