The first people to live in Wilsonville were the Klamath Indians. They built their first cabin on the north side of the Willamette River in 1853. The town was founded by Captain James Waddell and his family on December 15, 1883, when they bought land from the Klamath Tribe for $900. The town's name was chosen by Waddell himself and it refers to a small stream that flows through the town. Wilsonville grew rapidly after it became known as a center for lumber production in the early 1900s.
