Wilsonville, Oregon is a city located in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 15,701 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. Wilsonville was founded in 1876 as a small agricultural town named for General Alfred Sully. The first post office opened in 1880 and the first school was built in 1881. Growth started to slow after World War II as many people moved away and businesses closed down. However, growth resumed after the opening of Interstate 5 and the increase in jobs available in the region. In 2006, Wilsonville became home to America's first cross-country rifle shooting event which drew more than 100 competitors from around the world. The town was first settled by English-speaking people in 1847 and incorporated as a village on December 12, 1851. The name Wilsonville comes from early settler John Wilson and his family's farm near the present day intersection of Highway 20 and First Street. In 1863, General Sherman halted his advance through Oregon while he visited the area and ordered all military forces to retire to their respective camps along the Snake River. One group of white soldiers founded what would become known as "The Old Home Brigade" in Wilsonville after they found abandoned buildings there that had been used as an infirmary for Confederate troops during the Civil War. Aftermath of the war left many Union soldiers homeless and without homes so they set out to find new places to live. On October 15, 1865, General Sherman issued orders suspending all lawlessness throughout Oregon due to Reconstruction efforts which had not yet ended following secession of Jim Crow Alabama two weeks earlier. A detachment from his arsenal guard unit traveled into Bullitt County searching for food supplies that had been looted by Confederate troops during their retreat across Patterson Creek on September 10th when they were met by local farmer James McCoy who led them back inside his home where they were safe until nightfall when they finally reached safety at a nearby farms before marching back into camp under cover of darkness In 1870, A&P grocery store opened up in Wilsonville with JB Hutton as its general manager A post office was established at Wilsonville on November 5, 1870 In 1902, Mrs. Budd opened her bakery/cafeteria called The Budd House which became one of Wilsonville's most popular businesses In 1923, Drs Pepper Incorporated opened up its first bottling plant in Northwest Oregon making it one of only a handful Bottling plants ever opened up in America After World War II ended with Victory over Japan (1945), Wilsonvillians began planning for their community's future including developing land northward along Highway 97 towards Hillsboro and beyond On July 3rd 1951, voters approved incorporation into Bullitt County effective date January 1st 1952 As more people migrated into different parts of America during this time period more jobs were needed soon so people started moving out again leaving behind some very valuable properties like Mrs Budd's bakery/cafeteria which continued operation until 1984

Wilsonville was founded by John Wilson in 1847. The town was named after General George Armstrong Custer, who died in battle in 1885. In 1861, Wilsonville became the capital of Oregon and the first state capital to be established outside of California. The city's first mayor was A.J. McNeely.
