The townsite was first settled by Mormons in 1847 and named for President James K. Polk. Wilson, who homesteaded there in 1887. Wilsonville is located on the east side of the Klamath River and includes the villages of Dayton, Gresham, and Arlington. It is bordered by the city of Bend to the north and southwest and McMinnville to the northeast. The first people to live in what is now Wilsonville arrived during the early 1800s as part of what was then called Canada's Mission District. They were farmers who brought their crops overland to market in Portland or Salem. By 1830 most of what would become Wilsonville had been platted out with named streets and businesses dating back to that time include Jensen's Store (now Dayton Lane), Sawmill Hill (now Gresham Road), Blacksmith Shop (now Arlington Drive), Grains Mill (now Polk Street), Methodist Church (now Wilson Boulevard), Post Office (founded 1887), Schoolhouse No. 2 (founded 1865) . By 1840 most of this area had been developed into an incorporated village with a schoolhouse, storehouses, blacksmith shop/forge blockee, wagon stop/market place and two churches- First Baptist Church built in 1840 and First Methodist Church built in 1865 both on Arlington Drive today known as Polk Street across from Schoolhouse No.2 also known as “School House No 11” which served grades pre-kindergarten through 8th grade before being shuttered in 1957 after only 4 years due to increasing enrollment numbers at nearby UO housing developments). In 1861 when Oregon became a state it was added to Washoe County; however because much of this area lay within Morrow County boundaries until 1889 it remained part of Washoe County until decided by Congress pursuant to Act 144 that Oregon be admitted as a state full sphere including all land east Of The Willamette River including all future towns created east Of The river whether they were platted or not making Wilsonville one such town Official On January 3rd 1870 Washington Territory Census reported population for Town At 1st Count 527
