When looking at a telescope, one of the first things to consider is its history. The following paper will provide an overview of Western Oregon's role in telescope development and how it has impacted our community today. The Telescope Research Foundation was founded on May 21st, 1954 by Drs. Clifford Berryman, John Fritsch, and Edwin Hubble Jr.. At first their purpose was simply to support research into new types of telescopes but over time their focus changed from optics research toAST-basedacoastal surveys (Vernon et al., 2009). In 1957 Dr. Berryman became thefirstDirector at WFIRST using his experience working withCTE instruments at UC Berkeley (Petersen & Kitell, 1958). The Observatory soon became known as "Western Oregon's Astrophysical Observatory" (WOAI) due to its location within Western Oregon within easy reach of many astronomers and instrument manufacturers (Kitell, 1965; Cramer & Hoyle, 1969). On July 1st 1975 WOAI merged withOregon State University's Astronomy Department creating "Oregon State University Astrophysical Observatory" which still operates today! Over the years there have been several important advances made in telescope technology including: -An increase in aperture size from 150mm up to 4500mm -A more widespread adoption of spectral imaging techniques -A greater reliance on digital signal processing software -And a wider variety of mount types including Dobsonian reflectors, Schmidtschild dishes etc.

West Linn is a city in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 26,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Clackamas County were fur traders who followed the Cascades and Puget Sound Rivers in search of trade goods. In 1805, Capt. George Vancouver explored and mapped the coast of North America from Mount Hood to Point Reyes Station before sailing eastward for Liverpool on his HMS Beagle in 1826. After his voyage he recommended that British colonists travel through Oregon instead of down California's Central Coast because "the country seems healthy and rich." In 1825, businessman James Kapp founded an agricultural settlement near present-day West Linn on land donated by Kapp's brother-in-law, John Day. On July 3, 1850, Washington state became a U.S. territory; as a result, Kapp's donation became part of Clackamas County. A post office called "Kappville" was established in 1851; it was moved to its present location five years later when the countyseat moved from Salem to West Linn due to population growth thereabouts. By 1865, when Oregon became a stateside state after gaining its independence from Great Britain, Kappville had become known as "Oregon City". On December 10th 1890 commissioners voted 6-1 against annexation by neighboring Multnomah County because they felt that Waverly would be too large for such an isolated community with only about 60 residents then living within its limits; Multnomah County eventually annexed Waverly into their boundaries two years later (March 1893). During World War II much of western Oregon was under Japanese occupation as part of the Pacific Theater; during this time many homes were destroyed or damaged during airstrikes by American forces and some people were killed as a result. Many soldiers who served here returned home after the war and started businesses in West Linn which grew rapidly during postwar boom times: Jardine Paper Company went bankrupt in 1951 but reopened four years later as Northwest Paper Corporation; Western Electric signed a lease for Lots 7 & 8 on Northeast Seventh Avenue in 1957 but never built anything there because economic conditions precluded it from doing so when development rules changed again following Interstate 5 construction nearby; Greening Supply Co., Inc.; Nike/Ecco Shoes Co., Inc.; First National Bank acquisition by Wells Fargo bank completed October 1969 finally providing stability for town since no one could run out of money

On December 6, 1847, the Oregon Territory was organized. In January of 1848, the first legislature met in Portland and passed a bill creating a county courthouse. The first justice of the peace was elected and his office began on February 1st. On February 14th, 1850, Commissioners Court was established with a population of ten families. The first justices were Samuel Halsey and John Sutherlin.
