West Linn was founded as a small railroad town in 1887 by pioneers from eastern Oregon. In the 1940s, West Linn became known for its large aerospace manufacturer, Boeing Co., which employed many of the city's residents through manufacturing jobs in their homes or factories outside the city limits. After Boeing's departure from West Linn in the early 21st century, industry has slowly declined and some remaining jobs have been lost to new businesses such as software development and engineering consulting firms based out of Hillsboro or Beaverton. Today, West Linn is home to a variety of retail stores including local farmers markets; several restaurants including Pacific Northwest Brewing Company (now Heineken), Jamba Juice & Peanut Butter Junction; two libraries - one public and one private - that offer free lending privileges for books, movies and music; four schools - two elementary schools and two high schools - serving children from pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade; an arts center with various performing arts events annually; three parks - Discovery Park north of downtown and bothenfluence Park east of downtown; as well as several small commercial districts surrounding central business district along Deschutes Riverfront. West Linn, Oregon is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 8,434 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Multnomah County. The area now known as West Linn was first populated by Native Americans in the 17th century. The town was founded by Captain George Vancouver on March 15, 1827 after he and his party reached the Willamette River from British Columbia via what is now Portland. At its peak it had a population of 5,000 people. In 1854 gold seekers discovered aspecimens of gold nuggets at what is now called Chinatown and began to prospect for ore in and around West Linn. By 1858 there were over 1,000 men working at various mines in and around West Linn; $1 million worth of gold had been found within ten months of the town's founding! In 1860 Ulysses S Grant appointed west linn postmaster; Gail Atherton became first woman to hold that position in America when she took office on November 10th of that year! In 1865 mining operations came to an end due to economic factors but continued exploration led to more discoveries including lead and silver mines during the 1870s- 1880s which again led to new development; mills, churches and other commercial buildings sprouted up all throughout downtown West Linn during this time period. However World War II intervened with massive changes happening throughout Oregon as well as nationally; joblessness soared following rationing while war production halted many vital goods like food. Even though postwar growth slowed down some progress was made especially with construction projects such as Interstate 5 entering town from outlying areas near Hillsboro while Amtrak also started serving downtown in 1971 making it easier for residents to get around without leaving their homes or taking public transportation! In recent years there have been several challenges facing western linn both economically and socially including: skyrocketing housing prices (due largely to overpopulation), increased crime rates (due chiefly to drugs/ alcohol abuse) along with environmental degradation exacerbated by climate change effects like extreme weather events causing landslides etc.; however overall trends indicate positive developments are emerging despite these challenges which will continue into the future!
The city of West Linn, Oregon was founded in 1892 by the ancestors of current Mayor Donny Hathaway. The population of West Linn grew rapidly after the opening of the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company's (ORN) line to Portland in 1887. In 1917, West Linn annexed the neighboring town of Sandy.
