West Linn is a city in Oregon, United States. The population was 29,671 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Benton County. When it was announced that Sutter would not live long enough to complete the project and return home with his spoils, members of the committee negotiated with him until he agreed to sell them all his stock for $8000USD; this deal made West Lin one of the first cities in America to be self-governing under an ordinance passed by its citizens dated February 15th 1887 The City Council became effective on October 1st 1888 when Mayor George Wills took office following election victory over incumbent Tom Browning On December 5th 1888 Wills extended voting privileges from male citizens age 21 or older only to women and young children under eighteen years old In 1905 The University of Portland opened its doors as Portland State College In 1924 The City Council created Benton County Airport which remains operational today

West Linn, Oregon was founded in 1877 by John Wesley Powell. The town was named in honor of General James K. Polk which is located on the edge of the Columbia Plateau. In 1855, the Oregon Territory was organized. It included what is now east-central Oregon and portions of Nevada and California. The territory was named for General James K. Polk, who had been the president of the United States at the time it was created. In 1859, a group of settlers led by John C. Frémont reached the area that would later become Portland, Oregon. They discovered coal reserves in what is now Multnomah County and decided to establish a town there. Portland became a city on January 3, 1872.
