West Linn is a city in Polk County, Oregon, United States. The population was 15,890 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1887 by members of the Mormon Church and named for one of its founders, Brigham Young. It has been described as "the most beautiful small town on the American continent." The first permanent settler in what is now West Linn was George Waddell. He arrived in 1879 and started a cattle ranch that he called Waddell Station. In 1881, he married Jane Lyon and moved to the area where he would build his home and become an important figure in West Linn's history. In 1886, Brigham Young founded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) here in West Linn and named it Utah City after his home state. This event marked the beginning of what would be known as Mormonism's westward expansion. The LDS Church built a large cemetery here which still stands today. In 1912, when World War I began, Utah City became part of Fort Huachuca under U.S Military occupation because it lacked municipal services like water or sewer systems; however Fort Huachuca later reverted back to Mexican control and local authorities were able to reestablish proper services within two years thanks to donations from people throughout central Arizona through a process calledaken memoriae (memory transfer). In 1918 Oregon Statehood was granted to both states by President Woodrow Wilson; consequently much activity took place including plans for what would become West Linn: A post office was proposed in 1917 but no construction began until 1920 when Waddell donated land on which the present day Post Office building stood; also included were three houses: One occupied by Jens Olsen who operated a grocery store until 1933 when he sold it to Hyrum Smith who turned it into an apartment complex that remains currently standing today; another house used as storage during prohibition before being purchased by Everett Trueblood who renamed it Trueblood Hall near current day Interstate 5 exit 174A; finally one house which served as Social Services Building before being demolished around 1960s due to defective construction This period coincided with significant growth for western Oregon following World War II with industry moving eastward into the Willamette Valleyfollowing the end of Prohibition In 1958 an ordinance was passed establishing limits on single family residences within city limits while banning industrial buildings fromcity limits altogether ; this ordinance effectively endedwestlinn's substantial out-of-town shopping district concurrent with increasing traffic congestion caused by rapid annexation of adjacent neighborhoods . however some out-of-town retail development continued unchecked such as Jack Breslin’s landmark department store built at Fifth Avenue & Morrison Street just south of I-5 exit 171B
West Linn was founded in 1862 by two brothers, George and John West. The town was named after the Battle of Blue River, which occurred in 1853. When the Oregon Railroad Company was organized in 1876, West Linn became its headquarters. In 1907, the city was renamed Portland because of a donation from philanthropist Morris J. Levy.
