West Linn, Oregon is a city in Douglas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland–Vancouver–Hillsboro, OR-WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now West Linn were fur traders from Canada in 1827 and 1830. They named the area "Lloyd's Harbor" after John Lloyd of Nova Scotia who had explored the Columbia River region before that. The town site was surveyed in 1847 by Nathaniel Gibbs and named for him. In 1861, when the Central Pacific Railroad came through Douglas County on its way to found Seattle, west of present day Portland, it built a track between West Linn and Vancouver. This made possible an early boom in lumbering and other businesses followed as people traveled to see the new railroad development. By 1870 there were over 100 buildings in West Linn with a population of 350 people. At this time local citizens founded their own school district which became known as "The School District of West Linn." In 1875 entrepreneur Wm Hildebrandt organized a group of entrepreneurs called The Dredge & Dock Company to build a canal across Astoria River into what is now Albany County for irrigation purposes only; however this idea never got off the ground because there were no funds available to do so! In 1893 Oregon politician David Hunter proposed building a dam across Willamette River downstream from West Linn to provide water for farmers but this proposal also failed because no one wanted to pay for such an expensive project! In 1902 Oregon Senator Borah Butler introduced legislation creating Douglas County; however it did not pass! In 1903 Sherman Atherton founded Western Electric Corporation (later GE) here in honor of his late mentor George Washington Irving who had died two years earlier at age 53 during an electrical strike at Scranton, PA! The downtown business district around Willamette Avenue began redevelopment as Multnomah Falls grew around it during World War II with many companies moving here including Boeing Airplane Company which developed Oriskany Airport near Orinda becoming world's largest airfield! After World War II most manufacturing stopped while downtown growth slowed down forcing some businesses out onto Willamette Avenue where they continue today behind large highrises such as Amazon’s fulfillment center – one of Northwest’s top employers – just east of Pioneer Square Park along International Boulevard . After Interstate 5 replaced US 101 south from Portland on August 15th 1991,[5] development started anew on Willamette Avenue with larger highrises being built next door including Microsoft’s Redmond Campus[6] until even Amazon has moved out leaving little space inside Pioneer Square Park anymore due to huge parking garages built right up against it like Googleplexes etc.: Downtown Eastside really went through another change starting back when I-5 was realigned all those years ago!] Once again we are seeing big box stores come into neighborhoods away from shopping malls so you can't even find anything close by if you're looking for something specific anymore!: Many people think that our current stateof affairs will continue until new transportation options come online: We need more bike paths/routes networked together like California does or else our streets will become gridslocked every single day!]

West Linn, Oregon is a town in Polk County, Oregon, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Polk County. The name "Linn" is an English word meaning "a meadow." The first permanent settler in what is now West Linn was Hiram Burchill and his family who arrived on horseback from England in 1855. They began to cultivate land and build a stockade around their cabin on the banks of the Willamette River. In 1861 they built another cabin further downriver but it burned down within two years. By 1865 they had erected a log cabin with rooms and an oven on the bluff overlooking the river. They also started to grow crops and raised chickens, pigs, cows, horses and hogs. In 1872 Hiram married Anna Maria Schafer (1837-1923). She was born in Germany to German parents and came to America when she was just over 12 years old with her family; she eventually became an American citizen too. In 1881 Hyrum founded what would become known as the City of West Linn which included what are now downtown buildings as well as Lots 1-5 on Cemetery Hill east of South Street between Third Avenue and First Avenue near present day Pioneer Square park across from Memorial Stadium/Civic Center Mall. One year later he donated 10 acres (40 hectares) of land southwest of downtown for a public square that became known as Park Square after Hiram's death in 1888 while still mayor of West Linn In 1902 city officers moved into new headquarters at Fourth Avenue southeast corner Third Street/First Avenue which had been existing since 1886 when City Hall was moved from its original location at Second Avenue northeast corner Fifth Street/Fourth Avenue Mayor Waddell died suddenly December 4th 1902 leaving Mayor Cooks running until election held February 3rd 1903 where Cooks defeated challenger William Sieveking by 5 votes out of 721 cast with all precincts reporting
