West Linn is a city in Polk County, Oregon, United States. The population was 30,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland–Oregon–Vancouver Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded by Mormon settlers in 1881 and named for Brigham Young's home state of Utah. The first post office in West Linn opened in 1882. In 1909, the town became a city with its own police department and fire department. It annexed neighboring towns on March 15, 1912, to form a larger city government with more power over local affairs. In 1984, West Linn approved an ordinance declaring itself an open-air sexual predators prevention zone as part of efforts to reduce child sex abuse incidents across the region.

After the war ended in 1945, some residents moved out of west-central Portland while others established new businesses such as home builders and automotive dealerships. Due to its strategic location at I-5 and US 97 as well as its close proximity to Portland International Airport (KGW), west-central Portland experienced rapid growth during the late 1990s when it became one of America's most popular tourist destinations fororians.
