Today, West Linn remains one of Oregon's most diverse communities with a wide range of residents who embrace both local cultures and international influences In addition to its rich cultural heritage, West Linn has also become known for its hiking and biking trails which offer stunning views of downtown Portland and other parts of Multnomah County. Hiking routes include hike #1 - Hillside Loop which climbs 4 miles (6 km) into Rocky Mountains-like terrain; hike #2 - Hollis Peak Trail which ascends 3 miles (4 km) before traversing Northwest Forest Service land; as well asmile long bike path called Timberline Trail which meanders through forested hills above Interstate 5 near Eagle Lake Biking trails include: mile long Timberline Trail which runs through forested hills above Interstate 5 near Eagle Lake; Aspen Park Bike Path which travels along Aspen Creek between Hillsboro and Beaverton; East Side Trails – two miles (3 km) long; Southwest Loop – 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) long Hiking routes are open year-round but snowmobiling is not allowed on these trails during winter because they are used for commuting or skiing instead

In 1870, the community of Florence were annexed to Linn and the name changed again to West Linn. By 1875, there were over 100 residents in the town. On February 13, 1889, an act of Congress designated that part of Oregon south of Interstate 5 be known as the Northwest Territories and West Linn became its capital. In 1904-1905, a fire destroyed most of downtown business district; however due to donations from citizens donations began rebuilding within one year with help from donations from other states as well. The population of West Linn peaked at around 2200 in 1910 but has decline steadily ever since then due to various factors such as emigration (mainly farmers) out of Oregon during World War II and economic recession throughout the 1970s-1980s. The town currently has about 600 residents and it is expected that it will only have between 500-700 residents by 2050 due to population growth rates in neighboring states such as Salem andPortland
On November 10, 1857, the Treaty of Portland was made between the United States and Oregon. This treaty ceded Oregon to the United States and established a boundary between the two states. The treaty also recognized that Native Americans were still in control of parts of Oregon.
