Ammunition has been a part of the West Linn community for over 100 years. From black powder to today’s high-tech rounds, we have something to offer everyone. In 1877, James “Pete” Read bought a small factory in what is now known as the Richmond District ofWest Linn. Read manufactured and distributed ammunition until his death in 1912. His son, John P. Read continued the family business until it was purchased by Brownells in 1951. Today, Brownells continues to produce ammunition under its legacy name in West Linn. The first commercially produced shot shells were made from black powder in 1876 by J&P Smith & Sons of New York City. The popularity of this type of round led to production increases across the United States during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The use of percussion caps onshot shells began around 1903 and became more common during World War I due to advances in artillery technology. The development of machine guns and wireless communication systems led to increased demand for projectile rounds that could be Fired from Multiple Firearms Units (MFU). These munitions were often designed specifically for rifle fire which gave them their nickname “machine-gun rounds” or simply “Machine Gun Rounds” or MGRs for short. During World War II, Winchester introduced their first armor piercing bullet called M2HB which was capable of penetrating up to 120mmarmor plates at 500 meters range! This new round quickly gained popularity among European armies who used it extensively against German tanks and other armored vehicles during WWII! In honor of M2HB’s success, Winchester renamed their entire line of armor piercing bullets after American WWII generals: HMM-163A7HGMUSSR6 (General Eisenhower), HMM-163A9HGMRD8 (General Montgomery), HMS Prince Of Wales ( Admiral Sir John Fisher) – all with an M prefix honoring each general’s accomplishments! 1

West Linn is a town in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 9,624 at the 2010 census. It lies on the west bank of the Willamette River between Salem and Portland. West Linn was established as a small farming community in 1887 by settlers from eastern Oregon. The first post office was opened in 1888; it remained in operation until 1937. In 1911, the town became a city after voters approved an amended ordinance to that effect. West Linn's Miracle Mile – now known as "the heart of downtown" – began developing in the 1920s when construction of the Willamette Bridge made it possible for residents to walk to work and other destinations near downtown. The city limits expanded modestly throughout its history but grew rapidly during World War II, when production of munitions increased at nearby Boeing plants and demand for goods increased along the Pacific Coast. Once hostilities ended, however, growth slowed and annexation rates decreased; by 1990, only about half of all properties within city limits had been annexed. After several years of consolidation among smaller cities along Interstate 5 (northwest of Portland), West Linn became a single-town municipality on February 15, 1997 via an act passed by the Oregon Legislature following a referendum vote million strong (79% against). On July 1st 2018 WestLinn merged with Salem CTY

The first bullets were created in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. They were made of lead, copper, and brass. The first cartridges were invented in 1836 by John Moses Browning.
In 1885, the Oregon Territory was created from the eastern parts of what is now Oregon. This territory included present-day West Linn and a large area to the east including Salem and Portland. The western part of the territory was not included in this original creation and it was only after much negotiation that an agreement between representatives from both sides were reached in which West Linn would be added to Salem as a town. West Linn's first settlers were farmers who arrived around 1887. They built log cabins, cleared land, raised crops, and occasionally hunted game. By 1890, when the town incorporated, there were about fifty people living in West Linn. The early residents were instrumental in building up the town by creating businesses and helping to raise money for its development. The growth of West Linn was slow at first but eventually it picked up speed due to its location and natural resources. In 1912, a hydroelectric power plant was constructed on the Willamette River near present-day Portland which made West Linn one of the most important towns in Oregon during this time period. This new source of electricity allowed for larger homes and businesses to be built as well as making it easier for people to get around without having to take public transportation.
In 1872, a group of investors pooled their money and founded the Oregon Central Railroad. The company was able to build a line from central Portland to Willamette Falls, and by 1885, it had reached the Pacific Ocean. In 1899, the company merged with the Pacific Northwest Railway to form the Oregon and Washington Railway. The O&W continued building its track until 1971 when it was sold to Amtrak.
