Tualatin, Oregon is a city located in the U.S. state of Oregon. The population was 44,451 at the 2010 census and is the sixth-largest city in Oregon. It is also the largest city in Northwest Oregon. The area around Tualatin was first settled by Europeans in 1842 as part of what is now known as Wallowa County. The name "Tualatin" means "place where two rivers join." The City of Tualatin was established on December 3, 1907 when it became an incorporated town from a group of outlying farms that had all been surveyed together as one township back on October 1, 1906. That same year saw the opening of the first post office in what would become Portland and, soon after, the development of stores and businesses to service those new settlers who had chosen to move to this new land east of Willamette River. In 1915, Tualatin began annexing adjacent townships until it reached its current size – comprising nearly all present day Multnomah County – with just over 14 square miles (35 km2). As Multnomah County grew larger, so too did its need for municipal services; Accordingly, on January 1st 1923 incorporation ordinances were passed allowing for annexation by other counties within Multnomah Territory should they choose to do so without prior vote by residents or their respective mayors/councils. In 1933 Councilman Jens Nielsen submitted Act No 5239 which annexed most of Yamhill County including Scappoose and parts of Springfield Heights etc., making Tualatin one municipality large enough to provide basic public services like garbage collection and watermain replacement while still remaining administratively separate from these larger neighbors On July 16th 1959 Mayor Clyde Didrikson announced that council had voted unanimously to approve plans for a major hospital growth project known locally as Columbia Hospital Expansion Plan which would bring 4 hospitals (two attached to existing Columbia Medical Center) into view across Southeast Portland along Northeast 82nd Avenue near Interstate 5…This massive project would be completed between 1966-1970 resulting in about 100 jobs direct & indirect during construction! With hindsight we can see how this sudden influx of jobs could have negative consequences for our small town economy but at the time it simply seemed like something must be done! Rapid growth wasn’t always welcomed by everyone however and tension soon developed between developers & locals over noise concerns & traffic congestion caused primarily by expansion onto narrow streets surrounded by high rise buildings
In 1887, Tualatin was founded as the town of Tongue. It became a city in 1896 and then a state capital in 1907. The city was renamed Portland on January 1, 1937, after the merger of two smaller towns within its boundaries: Tualatin and Burnside.
